1. MSI board.
2. He has the dual core at 4.5ghz.
3. You'd get nowhere near that with a quad.

@OP, one of the cores may be faulty.. And unlocking would be useless anyways, if you read what xd says.

^ Not 100% true, but for the most part, right on.

If she can unlock it to a Tri, it only uses 95 watts and she can try to overclock it.

I got mine to run at X4 4.4 and I bet I could do 4.5 if I cared to push the additional voltage through it. My chip might be a one off though, we do not know what hers could do.

Jen, read read read everything. Your manual, this forum.... Please at least read the manual before you post back. It does a great job explaining where you do your core unlocking and how you set your voltage manually.

Turbo V could be used, but you should make it boot at the voltage instead of using Turbo V every time you boot into windows to adjust your voltage.

Honestly, raw speed...@ 4.5ghz i have never seen a game fully max the cores to 100% usage another reason is the crap board i have...as a quad things get a bit to hot (mosfets that is) Right now though i have it as a X3 @ 4ghz 2800mhz cpu-nb and i think that is the OC i will run from now till i get a new system, between the 4.5ghz and 4ghz, honestly i don't see a difference, i would have to get a better graphics card and then see which is better at feeding it, my guess is the tri @ 4ghz

I am going to do some X2 runs this weekend on my new board and shoot for 5 GHz lol. (Wishful Thinking)

Hey, I added liquid cooling, so it is within the realm of possibility.

I had basically the same thing happen on my 555...

You may have one good unlocked core and one bad unlocked core - As I did, so:
Step 1: Go into the BIOS, try disabling 1 of the 2 new unlocked cores - if it still hangs...
Step 2: Go into the BIOS, try re-enabling that core, then disabling the other new unlocked core.

I found that of my BIOS listed cores: 0,1,2,3. "Core 3" (Fourth core) - was unstable. So, when I unlock, I always disable that core to maintain stability.

Hope this helps,

Jyk

have you upgraded your bios at last??
have you ever got BSOD in windows??

if you face BSOD problem, then try to unlock to 3 cores only,
as there may be one of the core is bad, but may be both of them are bad...
just have a try and see what will happen after unlock to 3 cores only
