Real Dhcp head scratcher

Have a problem me and a friend are faced with and cant work out.

At the start of today everything was working fine the Fileserver was throwing a wobbly and not allowing people to save their work e.c.t but not worried about that at this moment of time.

The problem We're facing atm is the dchp which was working fine this morning has decided it isnt going to allow the internet out or computers to ping each other or ping printers e.c.t.

all the computers will ping all the servers no problem, But you cant ping anything else.

The server is running windows server 2008 (vista kernal)

The network icon next to the clock has a yellow marker on it. opened up the network connections and it says its not connected to a network?

No settings have been changed all that the servers done today is a password reset lol

Edit: forgot I should mention I had my computer playing the radio via internet and it kept dropping then finding the server then it went all together

Should also mention its running via a cisco switch
Any help would be nice

You are not having a DHCP problem. You are having a DNS problem, which is affecting name resolution (clearly) and thus UNC paths for saving files. This will also kill your internet because you cannot resolve external addresses.

Server getting good time data from an NTP server?
clock skew will kill networking in a heartbeat.

ipconfig /all look okay ? What is handling DNS on the network ? You using the server and forwarders ?

Temporarily give a PC or the server a static DNS of 8.8.8.8 (google's public DNS) in CMD type "ipconfig /flushdns", then "ipconfig /registerdns" and then see if you can get to a website.

It sounds like whatever your using for an internal DNS server & forwarder laid an egg... check to see if the service is running if you are indeed running the DNS server 'on your server'

Is this a Windows Domain? I agree with rmp459 that it sounds like a DNS issue, check out your DC and if the Primary DC is having issues and failing over to the secondary DC (with old/bad dns entries).

How are you pinging the other computers and printers? By IP address or by the name?
what happens is that you go onto a pc on the network and use ipconfig /renew and the pc will sit there, this is because the DHCP is saying the is no network connection. i looked on the DNS and it had a error saying that it could not connect to the domain which is on the same pc as the DHCP. could this be a driver issuse or something on the actice D/DHCP computer or the DNS although i don't know why that would affect it. i think basicly we have no internet beacuse that actice D/DHCP pc can't connect to the internet which we think could be a hardware failer as the room we are in gets VERY hot.
