Don't screw up the lapping job if it's your first attempt. And remember you must lap both CPU and heatsink. That's why I advise against doing it.

Lap a CPU and you void your warranty on the chip.

Hit the nearest computer hardware store and buy a cheap CPU cooler.. hell maybe even two, and do practice runs. You don't want to go round 1 on such an expensive cooler... imo anyways.

I'd say the same for a CPU.. but it's tougher to find a cheap-o there... maybe if you have a spare or a friend has a spare, do a test run on that.

Remember a full lapping only nets a few extra C.... imo not really worth it, but to each their own right?

600 and 1000, huh... Well, I'd advise to get some higher grit paper too. When I lapped my old P4, I used 400,800,1200,1500,2000 and 2500. You might not need that much of a variety, but 1000 will not finish the job properly. I, personally, wouldn't settle for less than 2000 for my finish.

yeah i was thinking 2000 aswell just to buff out the scratches and make it a bit shinier and when i say ive not done this stuff before i mean personally i have friends with experience in both coolers and lapping and ive observed a fair bit aswell im not amazingly sure on the idea of lapping just that when i re-sinked the stock cooler after purchase(just for clarity i guess) i noticed it had a dint in the middle not massive but noticable, and from my highest core to my lowest is a 9c/10c difference under load which i think is caused by this?

peace suggy. (sorry for double post)

1.5v suicide run? Some people ran them at 1.6v for years.
