Apple Cinema display... Good deal? - Page 3

I have both the ACD 27 and two Dell U2711's (one at work and one at home). While the U2711's AG coating does suck, in high lighting environments such as the workplace, the sparkle effect is less noticeable than it is at home.

For sure, colors on the U2711 are way more accurate. Whites and blacks on the ACD are much much brighter, but overall color accuracy is off and washed out. This is due to the use of LED backlighting.

I am on my 3rd ACD actually.. It along with the first two all had dead pixels! I'm really tired of going to the store to exchange, so I'm returning the LCD sometime this week. The glare issues didn't turn out to be an issue for me really.

Really the dead pixels were my biggest complaint. The washed out colors were somewhat fixed by enabling EDID on my ATI card, adjusting the color temp, and lowering the brightness in the control panel helped to fix the issue somewhat. I would actually keep the monitor for it's beautiful clean whites, but I'm tired of trying to find one without any dead pixels!

I have one and i love it compared to my dell 30" IPS because of the crappy anti clare coating on the dell.

Really though guys... think about it

27" 2560x1440, IPS screen
Its glossy (which is GOOD for me, I don't want matte)
It has a webcam built in, which is nice cus I dont like having my xoom in my lap for chatting with my parents/friends...
Its got the nicest looking base I've ever seen. I like that I can put my keyboard on it to save desk space and keep the screen closer to me

Now here's a question: where's the best price for a new one and used one
You blind? Find a few posts explicitly bashing Apple. And dont bring the 2 quotes you foolishly quoted earlier. The two you quoted had already been dismissed by their respective owners

Yeah, thought so. Dont make assumptions. please dont. we dont need it here at OCN.

One thing apple knows how to do is make amazing screens. People are just bring price into the equation and doing what any LOGICAL person would do- compare it to the monitors in the price range.

But apparently money isnt a factor for you and i have to agree that some people just dont read the freaking thread before making useless comments.

really? matte when u explicitly said glossy.

It's written in plain english, like really, can you NOT read? Is it that hard ?

You think u can just read the thread topic and make a comment disregarding all other comments?

sigh.

Go for the apple then. you already tested it. what more do u need? u want us to hold your hand and lovingly skip to an apple store down the street?

Thread Starter
I just wanna point out I remember asking 'link me to ACD' afterwards it hit me that it was referring to Apple Cinema Display LOL

I would like to see if this can be done to my ASUS lol

Over the past few years I've noticed one thing on OCN, the Apple hate very rarely carries over to their displays. Most people realize the substantial quality put into them. The few that do, well, the misinformed will always be present.
Well that's good Also, the one that was, edited his post

That's because while most Apple products are horrible overpriced for what they are, their ACD is actually right on as far as price. It is very comparable in price to Dell's U2711.
Well this is good news

I'm using this in home environment where glare will never exist. But this dead pixel thing has me worried!.... as far as washed out colors, is this something that would be correctable with pro calibration?

QFT.... this is the second thread I've made this week that like 80% of the comments posted were off-topic or didn't read. The readers on this website are really stupid for the most part. Seems most with a recent join date don't seem to pay attention to anything... its like all the 'newbies' just troll like crazy or something

I'm really trying to find if there's another 27" monitor that has a glossy screen and ~2560x1440...... The ACD seems to be the only one. Nothing else so far seems to fit the bill.
