Obviously they need help with their security. Hence they hired a firm to do this. Whats not to understand about that?

Fail. So when your house gets burglarized, you don't call the police? You become your own private investigator?

Im kinda scared. My wow account got hacked a day or two after the PSN was compromised. I haven't used my wow account in awhile but I got an email from blizz telling me that my wow account got compromised.

I think both have the same login so I guess I have to start changing passwords on everything. Gonna be a pain in the butt

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Shazam my friend.

But Sony did not create the Ethernet stack, nor all of the hardware that runs it. Plus while they may be experts at their own network, they are not the experts at network security. If they decide to do all the work and investigation into the intrusion on their own, when/if they go to trial, the defense can have the network evidence tossed out due to chain of evidence issues. Bringing in an outside firm who's specialty IS network security will preserve the chain of evidence in the eyes of the court.

If the computer that I build breaks I fix it. If the Asus Laptop I bought breaks, I send it back for repair. I may be great with a logic analyzer, but I don't have the tools to fix SMT at home.

Is that a serious question? It's because Sony aren't security specialists...
