Guide to Populating an OCN BC2 Server

Hello all. I have been reading through comments from clan members and regular OCN members and I see a lot of people complaining that the servers are often empty, so I will offer my advise and experience to you all, as I am almost always able to get the server to go from empty to full in a short amount of time.

In order to get a server populated you need at least 2 people, so find a buddy who is online and wants to play with you and once you are both on the server, it wont take long for other to start joining. The main task is finding a buddy to play with and help you start off the server population. There are a few ways you can find people to play with.

1. Use this thread: http://www.overclock.net/organize-ga...2-matches.html

Or this thread: http://www.overclock.net/organize-ga...t-now-ocn.html

People here on OCN have become familiar with those threads. If you make a new post on one or both of them saying "anyone want to play on the OCN server with me?" you will likely get a response.

2. Join a steam group dedicated to BC2. As far as I know there are two OCN BC2 steam groups, and there are some difference between them. Joining a steam group will enable you to talk to other BC2 player through steam in game and out of game, and it will show you who is playing at any given time. This is the best way to stay organized with other players IMO.

The OCN BC2 Clan steam group, which I am the leader of, is not really a clan but just a group of people who like to play the game. This group is invite only. Any member can invite new members and any member can create an event that will show up for everyone who is logged in to steam at the time. If you want to join this group send me a friend request on steam. My steam name is loser6.

The other OCN BC2 steam group is public so anyone can join, but only group admins can create events.

On a separate note, what is everyones favorite SQDM map? Favorite Rush map? Favorite Conquest map?

If there are maps that people like more commonly than others, we have the ability to make the servers run a particular map when the server is empty, so players will get to start on a good map which will help the server populate.
Note that I can not promise that this will happen, but if there is a clear winner for map choice I think the other gameserver admins will be happy to make the change.

I think a smaller map would be preferable. White pass or such. As far as getting things going on a good map.

i believe you have to have atleast 5 players in a match for people to start filling it through the play now function. As the clan i play with, we never get any joiners if its just the 3 of us in the server.

So to jump start servers, you just need serveral friends to jump in an empty one and just play until the server starts filling it up.

This may be true but I can tell you from experience that 2 players will work. There are many people who prefer to play on less populated servers and those are the ones who join first. Just yesterday me and one other OCN member took the SQDM server from empty to full within 1 round.

SQDM might work on a different scale from rush or conquest. Just from personal experience of trying to load up rush/conquest type of server, 2 or 3 of us in the server never see any play now joiners.

You are correct but it also depends on the map. It would be much easier to populare say Oasis with 2 players starting out than say Heavy Metal. This is why I suggest an empty map setting.

Very good guide.

The SQDM server will fill up with much less players to start with, I feel for the 32 man server there needs to be (usually) a good 4-5 of you at least.

See you guys in there!
