too bad you discovered just now, when 775 is about to die/already dead.

Say what? this chip eats everything i trow at it with ease, and im sure it will for at least another 6 months or so. Think i will upgrade during 2012, but untill then this takes everyting i want it to and still some more.

I'm not saying your chip sucks, not at all. I'm saying that 775 is aging and your golden chip isn't as of big news as it would have been back when 775 was "THE SOCKET"

I see that, did not take it "personal" at all. The term Dead obviously mean different to different ppl. I have another rig with a i7 950 @ 4Ghz and SLI 460 @ 900Mhz, and to be honest i cant notice any difference in gaming on the two rigs.

Sure when BF3 etc comes out i will be able to notice some difference, but that is only the high Cpu demanding games.

People get baffled by the performance from the new sockets that the most of them forget about the "older" sockets but the fact is that the gain from a Q9650 like this and a highend i7 is close to nothing when it comes to games. (Some gains in BC2 / SC2) but that is mostly a gain that does not matter, going from 90 fps to 150 fps does not make a difference.

Agree... Q9xxx with 12MB cache is infact much faster than a Phenom II at same clocks. The Phenom II must run 200 - 300MHz higher in order for it to compete with the Q9xxx... So even if socket 775 is 'dead' these CPU's still performs great.

Does not look good for overclocking your new Q9550. Hope later bioses has solved these issues. Hope for your sake you make it to at least 450FSB. 450FSB x 8.5 = 3825MHz. Anyway, your motherboard will stop you from getting the max out of that CPU. But 3.8GHz is okay and fast enough.

My old Gigabyte GA-P35 DS3R (P35 chipset) did 450FSB rock stable with my Q9400, but not with my Q9650. Anything much past 450FSB was almost impossible, even with my Q9400. So I can only guess this may be where the limit for X38 chipsets also goes (same period as P35's). Or at least I hope so for your sake..

Intel P45 are really the supreme overclocking platform for Socket 775 Quads... X48 run to damn hot and are finicky
I already hid 405fsb on my pent d
and it was fine, got it up to 5ghz
the chip is dieing on me tho I did pull it from a junker
also a friend of mine gave me unreleased BIOS
they fix a lot and add a lot of things to
but it's moded beta BIOS, not that I care

It is a whole different story using a Quad FSB wise. Quads do not hit as high FSB speeds as Dual Cores. Not even close.

ya
but seeing how simple it was to hit 5ghz on my pent
it should not be to bad of at oc'ing a c2q (I don't expect any miracles)
anyway I know people who have gotten a q9550 and my my mobo to 4ghz easily
and with the moded BIOS I was able to oc more
on the stock BIOS the mobo came with all I could get was 4~4.2ghz ish
plus the temps reading were all screwed up

EDIT: see some oc here
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25...38-either-post

and here is a post on ocn were a q6600 is at 4ghz
http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ewed-sale.html

and here is a big thread on over clocking with the IX38 QUAD GT
http://67.90.82.13/forums/showthread.php?t=165004
I'm seeing people who are getting a fsb of 460 on c2q there
