Ringing Keys- Cherry Browns

So after reading through this thread on Geekhack:
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?12126-Filco-noise

I didn't know what conclusion to draw on whether it was normal to hear a ringing sound post-key release on a Cherry Brown Board.

I just got the package from ErgoGeek yesterday- it's the UBL9-S. I've really enjoyed typing on it so far except for picking up that ringing noise.

Someone else mentioned it on this subforum; to get a better idea of what I mean, check out the sound files on the first post. I've attached them here as well.

I'm wondering if:
A.) This is a defect of my particular board.
B.) It's a problem with X-Armor.
C.) All cherry boards have this sound (others have noticed this in their blues) and it'll just have to be something that will stop irritating me. Like I said, some people either don't notice it or says it doesn't exist or it's only when you keep bottoming out.

I still pick up on it even when I'm typing lightly.

Seems a bit more than normal (especially for Cherry Browns - I don't really hear any on my Cherry Reds) but it happens.

Thanks for the reply. A little disappointing as I'm on the fence about it now. I guess I'll give it another week before I decide to send it back or not & whether I'm noticing it just because that's how I obsess over a new purchase.. Such a shame, as the browns seemed like they were going to be the best choice.

Hahaha, one of the reasons I returned my Razer Blackwidow was because of that stupid noise. Cherry MX Blue vs Cherry MX Brown but it also had that noise upon release. Thanks for informing me.

One thing I forgot to mention about getting the UBL9-S, which is out of the box the "N" and "V" keys were inverted. Not a big deal, but I'm not sure what that says about their quality control.

It was really between this and the deck legend, because I wanted backlight, but I hated the font on that keyboard (it looks like a papyrus knockoff) and they were $40 dollars more expensive. Given that the Cherry MX switches are springs, I guess the metallic noise is just one of things to put up with & tune out.

its the pinging or so i was told it is from the springs or something
i thoought it was the metal plate thing

Do you type hard? The ringing is probably just the other springs vibrating and creating a tone. My Cherry Blacks do it, I don't see why others wouldn't do it.
EDIT: The metal plate is actually a plate. Its 1-2mm thick steel. It wont be making a ringing noise from being used as the backbone of a keyboard.

Since I started noticing it, I've been actively changing my typing style, as I am definitely used to bottoming out. I practice trying to be as light as I can on the keys but can still hear the spring. I may just keep my headphones in.

My only ringing key (Q) on the brown U9BL-S, doesn't ring anymore after I modded it with the clear stems.

Don't know if because the clear stem itself or because being my keyboard, I soldered all the switches and leds paying attention that the switch and the leds where pushed correctly during the soldering process.

It's an annoying process, that no big company can afford.

They likely mount all the switch together, all the led togeder, and then solder them (maybe manually) but all in one single pass.
