To Clone or To Restore...? Horatio?

I bought a SSD and will be receiving it tomorrow. I did a search about cloning the drive, looking for the answer to this particular question, to no avail; meaning I didn't learn anything I didn't know already. I know I can use one of several different progs to do the job, but here is my question:

INSTEAD of cloning the drive, can I do a clean install of Win7 and then pull a System Image Restore from the previous installation, thus, in essence, cloning?

To break it down:

1) Do a fresh System Image to my Data Drive (not my primary)
2) Install new SSD (following all the various recommendations found throughout OCN)
3) Install Windows 7 on new SSD.
4) Use Windows Restore to restore from Image.

Will this work, thus retaining all my Network settings, AVG, MS Office Stuff, Document Folders, and User Accounts? Or will the new installation not want to use a Restore from an Image that isn't it's own? Also, would it be less time consuming to just use a cloning prog?

I don't think you need to install the OS first,Just make a system repair disc from the back up and restore page ( where you make your system image) take all of the other drives out of the box so the boot manager goes on the new SSD and send the old image to it. Be sure to clean the image up before using it..virus,malware

edit: control panel>>back up your computer>>create a system image>>create a repair disk>>home free....or use Seagate disk wizard to clone the OS and transfer it to new SSD

edit again: In short, you are adding an extra step(installing OS on SSD and then you will be formatting it again anyway when you install the image...just write the image to the new drive

Okay, well, this is what I did. I downloaded Easeus Todo and intalled it. I cloned my drive, it took all of 13 minutes. However, the BOOTMGR was missing. So, insert Repair Disc, Try Startup Repair... BAM! WE're back in business!
