Microcenter i7 950 Now 179.99$ - Page 2

Will any place drop their prices soon or is this a temporary sale?
that cpu a few days ago was selling for 199.99 on their site. so dropping it another 20 bucks is awesome. even with the price at 199.99 it is around 60 cheaper than newegg.

you arent screwed if you get an i5 anyway. not only does it perform amazing in games, but your mobo will still support the 2600k and the ivys when they come out.

You can also get 5% off if you sign up for one of their programs (I forget the name) because you get a coupon for 5% off your next single item purchase with every receipt.

Almost covers the price of tax itself.

I had a family member purchase mine from the Chicago store, $220 + $10 shipping for a total of $230. Amazon and newegg had theirs listed for $300 back then. Saved me $70-100 .

Well when you're comparing $180 bucks to $300, it almost makes it a no-brainer, but if you don't necessarily need hyperthreading, I would go with the i5.

For almost twice the amount you aren't going to get twice the power. However, even if this deal was presented to me, I would personally still prefer the 2600k, if not the 2500k. 1156 and 1366 aren't being supported like 1155 from here on out, thats probably one of the main reasons why the processors are dropping in price. I would rather have a degree of future-proofing for my Maximus IV, and not have to worry about upgrading the motherboard on top of the processor in a couple years. But if someone is on a current budget of closer to 1k and wants to build a powerful i7 build, the 950 would be an awesome route from what I can tell.
