to give you a rough idea, currently the best internet cafe in my area has 60 computers;

i5 750
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R
4GB ram
GTX 470
Antec Darkfeelt

logitech gear.. g19, g9x g35 headset and 24" AOC monitors

and of course, the most popular games will be based on your demographic, ie. the most popular games at that internet cafe are STILL; warcraft III (dota), cs, sc II.

if i were you, i would ask around, and maybe get people around you to like the idea on facebook, which will also spread the word. this will also see if people like the idea and would use it.

if i lived in houston, i would spend every single day there. it would be very nice o go play games and hang out with people who enjoy the same things i do, as well as get some fragging on.

i wish you the best of luck! +rep

I know this wont make me a millionaire( really don't plan to be one) but i think it is something that i can do and be proud of.

I want to be a type of modern day arcade/ pc repair shop . 15-20 computer,3-5 ps3, and 3-5 xbox360 and maybe a few arcade machines( just an estimate). A long time friend of mine just got his master in business and we will sit down this weekend and draw out a business plan to see if this would work. I still have plenty ideas for this place but here is what i need to know. As the idea stands if this were available in your area would go for the right price?
DO I have to have 1337 skills to skill myself to the next paragraph?

The location I have in mind is about 5 minutes away from the University of Houston south campus. Plenty of bars, restaurants, clubs and schools around that area also.

The type of business you are describing closed down near me a year ago, they had been there for quite awhile.

IMO it seems like a terrible idea, for way too many reasons, hardware demands/upgrade costs... game costs, air conditioning costs depending on climate.. as well as the fact that anyone that can afford to pay to play(hourly rate?) will most likely have their own consoles etc.

As a business owner, there are definitely a few tips to get started. I will go over a few brief things that helped me or things I wish I did when starting my business.

First off write out your business plan and project obviously what you think you will need, then multiply that by 2. Make sure you have enough capital to last you for 1 full year. Remember that commercial utilities is a lot higher than residential and will probably exceed what you are going to estimate (15-20 comps + systems running all day during the summer + AC = a lot of electricity)

Second, you should get a lawyer for your partner ship. I don't care if it is your best friend since you were in diapers, once money comes into the picture , friendship goes out the door. Make sure you set rules for the two of you. If you have an uneven split in your investment, state that in your contracts!

Personally I run a business non computer related but almost all businesses are the same as far as marketing, you are trying to sell your customers something. SO make sure you have your websites, facebook, twitter, etc down as well, and that whatever business name you decide on is available.

If alcohol or ilicit herbs were involved I would attend, that or if I could bring my own foremention articles then I would attend, other wise I will partake in this. This may require some knowledge of local laws though move to Cali

A small business plan will be worked out this weekend. After some editing and revisions the final and our contracts will be presented to my lawyer to work out the rest.
