I think you should of included the poll option of "occasionally". Cause thats the one I would choose.

Yeah, had a game center fail in my area too.

I don't know about the idea of a PC repair shop with a gaming area. If they are PC gamers, they will likely be able to fix most things on their own. If they don't know how to fix their PC...they are likely not PC gamers. half the fun of PC gaming is getting the game to work

You would probably be better off if you just got a bunch of big TVs and consoles. Though the start up cost of this would be rather large and you won't be able to charge a lot for it. Come to think of it the start up cost for PC gaming would be even larger.

I think you should focus on the repair shop and then if you can get the space to do it; hold LANs and have a cover charge...but let people bring their own rigs or perhaps have a few sitting around that they could rent for a sizable fee. Sell some pizza and drinks...provide some good atmosphere and you might do well enough to make a profit.

It floated for 2 years in the back of the computer shop we worked at and we gave up and just expanded the PC store. The bigger town next to us of 105K was also not big enough because the one there closed too. My roomate and I could totally make one work in a big city. It would take lots of advertising and lots of work. Its way more difficult getting it set up than you might think. The whole place runs on windows batch files and virtual drives. The best resource online is igames.org. Its a community of lan center owners and workers. They also have incentives and send free stuff for showcasing games!
I agree with the above. Location is EVERYTHING. I co-owned a pc repair shop in a good size city in Kentucky, right outside of Cincinnati. It lasted a year. I could literally count how many customers we had on two hands.

Being close to a college you may have a better chance.. although most college kids are broke. I know, I am, even with a full time job...

Make SURE you include social networking activities...Social networking is so big right now. An example of a social networking "activity" would be:

A booth or PC set up just for facebook, twitter, etc. I can picture a "social network" lounge with a simple winterm pc and monitor in the corner with a mass of drunk college women lounging about it...

Where there are women there are sure to be gaming nerds!

Anyway, make sure you do research and know your target demographic.

Good luck!
