650TX enough for CrossFire

Thread Starter
Alright, So its been a year or so and still running the single Sapphire HD 5770 1Gb. And its time to upgrade i was thinking about going with 2 Sapphire HD 5830s 1Gb, And its only $105 each So i was thinking about getting them but um, Would my 650TX be enough to crossfire them, And i'm also using the P55-GD65 motherboard.

Just a side note before you start telling me to get this or get that just realized that i can not go over $280 and i also need a good mouse now if y'all could help me find 2 good video cards to CrossFire and a good mouse for under 280 or at 280 let me know

Yep, 650TX is a great PSU and could support cards a lot bigger than that. You could probably do two 5870s if you wanted. The ATI 5000/6000 series are very power efficient.

Pretty sure (checked around) that the 650TX only has 2 PCI-E connectors..going to need 4 for dual 5830's..I guess you could use adapters?

I think you're right. My 850 only has 4 and my 950 only has 6. Corsair is pretty conservative when it comes to providing PCIe power cables. Just make sure when you use adapters that you spread them out among as many molex lines as you can. Molex cables weren't designed to run a lot of amps over one line.

Okay, Then what should i do. I don't want to have a die psu. I know it has the amps to run it but like you said "Molex cables weren't designed to run a lot of amps over one line"

And plus i'm moving out in June and just want to upgrade my pc before i do and i know when i move out i'm not going to have any money to spend on my pc hehe so that's why i was leading towards the duel card setup

This is a much faster card than the 5830:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=P450-5857

Still can get two... and get 5870 CF performance (after overclock), which is near 6950 CF performance.

Just have one PCI-E power going to one card, the other to the other card. Have the molex-to-PCI-E adapters hooked up to the other two connectors.

Corsair usually under-rates their PSUs. Their 750W is actually an 850W, and their 850W is actually a 1000W. My 1200W is actually a 1500W.

Here's how big of a jump you're getting by doing two of these:
