Finish my 965 build, or buy a 2500k?

I've hit a wall, Microcenter has a 2500k for $179 on sale, but I was going to buy the rest of my 965 build tomorrow..

I can purchase a 2500k + MB and then buy the rest in May, or I can complete my 965 build and continue to OC my 965.

Would the 2500k be a huge boost over a OC'd 965? Is it worth buying it while it's on sale and then finishing it later ? [If I could buy it all now I would, trust me]

Or, I can just build my 965 now for cheaper, save my money and wait for bulldozer.

I just went from a 965 to a 2600K and even at stock speeds the SB is noticeably faster than my 965 was at 3.8Ghz.

If all you do is gaming it probably isn't worth the upgrade. But if you do anything CPU intensive SB will leave the Phenom in the dust.

What do you mean finish the build? What are you missing to finish it? It seems to me that you are just missing a motherboard for the 965? If that is the case, you will not miss out on much by just buying a 2500k and a motherboard because you can sell the 965 and just lose a little money. It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend.

This build is rather half-ass'd up atm, I'll be buying new ram, MB, CPU Fan and a new case, so, finish it all, it'll only hit me at about $260-$280 for all of it.

Edit : The SB + MB would be about the same, but that doesn't include the other things.

Thank's for the reply, yeah, I mostly just do gaming, no ram/cpu intensive programs. I'm thinking just use the money to buy my case/mb etc and stick with this! +Rep

The 2500k is the best you can get for the money really..it's wise to build around that if you still have the option, which in this case you do.

I would go Sandy Bridge and sell off anything you have that won't work with it.

No problem, If I was you I would sell the 965 and go to the 2500K. The Phenom was built to compete with the Core 2 Duos, so it is a 2 year old budget arch. I think in the long run you would be happier getting a faster chip then starting with such an old chip.

For the performance the 2500K is epic.
