$5500 build for heavy video editting/graphic design - Page 7

If its a club why build only 1 rig with $5500 when you could build 5?
That way more club members can do stuff at the same time.

Here's my take on a non SR-2 build (which is a viable option)

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=16065712

$4,682 for the hardware, still left with needing an OS, keyboard, mouse etc.
Could drop from the 990x to the 970 depending on how much overclocking you plan on doing.
My i7 970 with an XSPC Rasa RS240 kit can run stable up to ~4.4 with decent temps and a slight voltage bump. Also 24 gb of RAM will go a long way working with Photoshop etc.

Could drop to the 970 and get another 30" 2560x1600 HP IPS panel (which is great for anything where color accurracy is important)

Seriously I would buy a Mac... I'm a Windows guy but I take a Video Editing class and Final Cut Pro is a MUST! If students plan they want to become video editors they will eventually need to learn how to use it. The only Graphic design program I used was zBrush and I believe they have it for Mac also and it is a great program.

CS4 only supported Photoshop and Premiere/AfterEffects with CUDA and GPU acceleration (and 64 bit support for that matter!) Just go along the lines of my original post. I know what I'm doing

Go full blow SR02 with some nice 6 cores at 3.8-4.0. On top of that maybe 24GB of ram and some killer graphics cards.

Grand total $4549.32 without a case to house all the stuff here pic provided with setup.

Also does windows 7 Pro able to use 2 different cpus as i dont remember.
idk i think my build would work best in the sense its meets and exceeds the Autodesk recommend specs for the 64 recommended specs google it and look it all up.

Edit: oh yea i forgot cheapest place to get a SR-2 specially compared to amazons $700 price tag

seems like almost half the people in this thread is posting their dream builds. i don't see why they need a sr2, its for high school. i would go with something like this build and add parts if it seams necessary.

i wouldn't mess with ssd personally as their writing limitations. a nice raid 1 with fast drives for the OS and programs and a raid 5 for storage. mouse and keyboard you can chose but i would recommend an OCN ducky keyboard.

Im not saying it pertains to OP, but it does involve video transcoding.

Who knows, maybe it;ll eventually help encoding in the future. idk.

^^This ... kind of

Build like 3 GOOD rigs, or perhaps 1 bad ass rig and 2 decent rigs.

If it's for a school club that money is probably best spent on a few systems, rather than one.

Off the bat you need to put $1200-1500 aside for decent monitors. They're investments and very necessary i these fields of application.

With the remaining $4k get a couple of SB 2500K rigs with single Nvidia CUDA cards (GTX560ti perhaps?) and a SB 2600k central rig with a GTX580 in it. Or shoot, try and squeeze in 4 x AMD 1090t rigs with GTX460's. Get at least 8gb of RAM in each. SSD's are not a necessity, but would be nice. Still I wouldn't bother personally, if trying to stretch the budget to as many systems as possible.

Sure, workstation cards are great (especially when tax deductible and expense is no issue) but for this budget, and remembering that its for school kids who are all trying to learn as much as possible, spreading the wealth and accessibility is a valuable factor to consider.

I guess the real question for the OP is whether it would be in the course and schools best interest to get just one system or many. Everything changes drastically based upon this fact.

I largely agree with everything in this post. Why only get one PC on such a budget, when it's a club and there are obviously others who could benefit too?
