Aftermarket GPU Cooling

Thread Starter
So I'm running crossfire Radeon 6850s and I'm getting tired of how loud these fans are at idle (should've seen it coming). So right now I'm looking at aftermarket GPU cooling and don't really know where to look. I'd prefer to keep the cards at two slots, but if that's just not possible I can do three slots. I also need to make sure there's clearance for the crossfire bridge. I also have a preference for quiet over performance (hence the passive HR-02). Anybody have any ideas?

Oh, and I posted some stuff in the ATi Cooling section but have gotten minimal feedback.

Look at the Accelero Xtreme Plus. It's about a $100 a pop, but it's really good. I had my GTX 480 idling at 55c, and 90c load, but now, with my accelero, I'm getting 33c idle, and 55c-60c load. The best thing is, I can't even hear it. Not kidding, I don't even hear it. If I turn all of the fans off in my case, then theres a little tiny hum, but if I have my fans going (which aren't very loud. My loudest is 20db) I can't even hear it. Unfortunately, it's a triple slot cooler.

You could also look at the Zalman VF series, although I don't know if they support the 6850.

Well the Xtreme Plus doesn't fit the 6850, but the Twin Turbo Pro does. I assume it's also three slot, but do you know if the Crossfire bridge will fit across it?

I'm not sure if it supports that particular card yet, but I have had really good luck with the Scythe "MUSASHI" Twin-Fan VGA Cooler on both Nvidia and ATI GPU's... Looks like it works with Radeon HD5870.... but there list might need updating.

I use These on various cards.

The highest I'd go for a GPU, using that Musashi, would be a 4890 and that's pushing it. Personally, I look for a quieter solution that does keep the load temps down but all in all, that Mushashi isn't going to do very well. The Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo Pro is much better for the price.

Cool. Looks like that's what I'll be getting, just need to know how tall it is. If it interferes with the crossfire bridge (mine is rather short), I'll need to find some kind of work around.

I suggest Scythe Setsugen 2, while it doesnt really compare to the 3slot coolers, it is still a great cooler for midrange SLI cards.
I use it to cool my 460 @ 850, and it hits 70c max in furmark (25 degrees inside) with a 1100 rpm fan.
In general gaming it doesn't hit over 55.
