Clock locking from Flash?

So I'm not sure if this is a common problem or just me?

I enjoy letting youtube run in the background while I game, playing music or shows or whatever. I noticed one day after I installed my 6950 that SCII was running kind of slow (which is weird since it shouldnt tax my card at all). I opened up MSI AB and noticed my core was running at 500Mhz. I was like '***!' and closed out SCII. Core still running at 500MHz. Tried running a buncha stuff, long story short, I finally closed youtube and my clock dropped back down to 125, and up to 800 when a game opened up.

This is consistently a problem now however, if I open youtube my card jumps to 500Mhz and locks itself there. It won't go down, it won't go up.

Using Catalyst 11.3 on Win7 SP1, kind of a pain in the butt for multiple reasons, is there something that can be done about this?

I'm betting that your card goes to that 500MHz power state because adobe flash uses gpu acceleration for videos. If you use mplayer or some other player that uses the gpu to offload the decoding process, your clock will go to 500MHz.

This is normal operation, and it is how my card acts as well.

Edit: didn't see the "locking" while playing sc2....I have not seen this in my setup. I would try running sc2 first, or maybe adjust the powerplay +20% in catalyst.

Yes, this "issue" has been around for a long time.

The easiest thing to try is to disable the hardware acceleration in flash player (right click on flash window, settings, then untick it), but I'm not sure if it will solve it.

Other solutions are to force 3D clocks/disable powerplay, or edit GPU bios in order to change the clocks for that particular power state.

EDIT: In older CCCs it was possible to create a profile with custom clocks (therefore easily locking 3D clocks), but I'm not sure it works the same way in new ones.

EDIT: Yea, I just tested it, disabling flash hardware acceleration should definitely help, it stopped my card from going to 500.
