It has nothing to do with it being a "waste" and everything to do with being able to comfortably place my tablet on most surfaces without worrying about unseen dirt/debris scratching the surfaces. I've owned tablets before, as well as iPhones and there are very few investments that are worth their price than a good case to protect from scratches and keep dust out from general, every day use.

You seemed to have believed that me paying the price I paid in total (which makes sense after California taxes, which is about 10%, plus shipping costs) was questionable, and now you believe my decision to purchase a case is waste. Is there anything else about what i've purchased that you'd like to critique? Or do you think you'll contribute anything positive to this thread? Sorry that I can't find a place that sells this brand new product for less than its MSRP or find a case for a brand new product that meets your $5-10 criteria.

Wow. No need to be offended. I was clearly not doing all the math for the tax and case. As to the case. I just don't see it as the item that I should invest such a large portion of the cost of the product toward. That is just me. I'd like to think that name brand cases and whatnot aren't the only ones that are made to quality specifications. However, a case is a good investment in itself. If that is the only one right now that's made for the device, then so be it. I have no qualms with that. I did not mean to, nor do I now, provide any kind of vilification or disparagement.

I went with the Transformer because it's an absolute bang-for-buck powerhouse, and was right at the line between functionality/features and price/size - it's an awesome tablet in terms of media capabilities as well as productivity.

At the same time, the more you want to be able to do with a tablet, the more you start to move away from the lightweight aspect of it - if you want bigger and more powerful tablets, i'd just opt for spending that $$$ on a desktop/pure workstation rather than lugging around a gigantic tablet, because for 10.1 inch screens, I can't imagine that you'd really need a quad-core SoC over a dual-core one.
well I already have my i7 workstation/gaming/folding rig at home...but the thing with tegra 2 right now is the lack of support for high profile h254 1080p videos......theres a thread on XDA going on about weather its software and hardware and everyone agrees that its both, but mainly Tegra 2...
and its actually quite old...tegra debuted last year Q3/4 didnt' it?

How long would you think Tegra 3 would take to appear?
seriously with the shortages and lack of supply for the current transformer...as much as I want it...maybe its worth a wait for a Tegra 3 refresh?

enlighten me with your opinions!

h264? There isn't really solid news on the release. Certainly, it'll most likely be within a year or so. However, it just depends whether you think it's worth the wait/you can wait.

Man I can't wait to get one of these. Also everyone knows here that the longer you wait the better technology comes out. It just so happens that the asus transformer is one of those devices that seems like a no brainer if you're in the market for it. I guess you could compare it to the intel 2500k as far as bang for the buck in today's tablets.

Oops left the dot out (h.264)

Thingis....school end in about 6 weeks for me...the transformer would be an excellent note taking device that's socially friendly at the same time for me to use on the sofa or sharing photos and stuff with friends.

The refresh certainly wouldn't happen before school starts..........i should just jump in the transformers when theres stock again yeah?

The number one mistake people make is that they think that high profile=quality, but its a a measure of compression, but do not make the mistake that this compression leads to less quality.

iPad1/2 play high profile, but the Tegra 2 plays higher bit rate. With such small/unpowerful chips, its all about the instruction set and the Tegra 2 for some reason doesn't have it, my Droid X however does.
