if you are interested in going with more then one monitor then two 2gb 6950's would be the best choice

if you are going to stick with one monitor for the foreseeable future probably just get the 580

Yeah, the 6950 setup I was looking at costs just as much as the GTX 580.

You want pure raw peformance? GTX 580 SLI is better than the AMD 6970 Crossfire, OR single card vs single card. You can look an any reviews, bemchmarks, etc and they will all concur.

With two GTX 580 1.5GB you can run four monitors easily at 1920x1080p for 1920x1200 resolution without any problem.

You won't get better FPS with an AMD 6970 crossfire because the 512mb per card won't help at this resolution. It's only if you go to higher 2560x1600 resolution that the extra GB pays off. That's true but not at lower res like some might suggest.

Here is Metro 2033 the most graphic intensive game there is if you want an idea what performance you will get.

Heck even one GTX 580 beat two AMD 6970 crossfire on this.

This one says otherwise, hmm where is your source btw?

xfire 6950 2gb ~50fps
GTX 580 ~ 33
6950 2gb ~ 25

From what I've been told on other threads 3D Guru isn't a good source of info. Just ask Levesque.

My reviews came from Legit Reviews.com and AnnadTech.

Also if you look at the chart the GTX 580 SLI scored 65 and the AMD 6970 Crossfire wasn't even being compared so what are you referring to?

And you just compared a single GTX 580 and one AMD 6970 to two AMD 6950 crossfire. Not crossfire against crossfire which is what the OP is looking into.
