New Graphics Card

Thread Starter
My old 8800 GTS finally conked out on me. A good reason to get me a shiny new card. I am most interested in a card that will be good for a few years. My price range is up to $600. I am not really sure what to get and would appreciate any help.

Edit: Ignore price range comment. Best card to get any price range.

Well,

I'll be honest, I would probaly look at another upgrade instead, maybe a single 6950 and a new CPU with some more more memory.

Running a top of the range GPU with that CPU seems a little overkill. See if you can get a IC2Q or something along with some more memory and a 6950

I think a $600 graphics card would be a waste of money. Your CPU would be a massive bottleneck.

A bit more information for you guys. I was planning to upgrade most of my computer anyway. New cpu, motherboard and ram. Its just that my graphics card decided to conk out and I might as well get a good one now so when I upgrade the rest it would not be holding the computer back.

Just... No.

You can get more bang for buck if you go with 2 6950's which would put you back around $550.

I'd get a single one to start with and add a second later if you want

Personally, id avoid sli/dual gpu as some games still cannot utilize sli, therfore rendering your system with only a single gpu and the second being useless.

I would especially avoid this with ATI/AMD cause they cannot seem to make consistently good drivers that work with one card let alone multi gpu

But with all the newer games that come out, and the influx of more games that are to be released, this is not going to be an issue.

Also, all the older games that don't support xfire or SLi will max out on any of today's medium/high level GPU's.

Such as the GTX570 and upwards and 6850 and upwards

2x amd 6950 would be good choice but your cpu is going to be major bottleneck on your system. you should consider getting better cpu and gpu for $600.
