He's already said he's going to be replacing those as well.

I remember when my mom owned a Maserati. It would constantly break down and we would go through about 15 tires per year. Funny how things like that don't stop certain people from buying it...

Edit: Ignore price range comment. Best card to get any price range.
If you upgrade your CPU so you won't bottleneck your GPU - and want the best single GPU that can handle all of the games the next few years to come then two choices come to mind.

GTX 580 and AMD 6970. No need to fuss over SLI or Crossfire issues if your not ready to deal with it and your 800 watts can run it without any problem, where it will have issues running two unlocked AMD 6950's hitting the watt ceiling all the time.

You can unlock an AMD 6950 2GB if you read up on it first and know what your going to be doing otherwise just buy the AMD 6970 and over clock it and be done. No matter what others say you'll OC the AMD 6970 further than you can the AMD 6950 unlocked. I'd prefer the GTX 570 over the AMD 6950 unlocked myself as it's very comparable in performance.

However, price not being an issue then the GTX 580 is an awesome card and out performs any other single GPU today. It will surpass even the AMD 6970 by far.

Which ever you decide out of the four I discussed you'll find your going to love gaming again. Enjoy and let us know which route you went with your CPU and GPU, post back.

...I'd still go SLI or Crossfire. GTX 560's or HD 6950's.
I'd suggest the 6950's, because of the unlocking. A 800W should PSU will do just fine, really ..
If a 6970 consumes about 205 Watts + the CPU 95W or something + the remaining components 100W = around 600 W.

That would be way more bang for the buck than any single GPU in the price range.
Also, at most games within the last 5 years or should work decent with multi GPU's.

Good god this thread if full of fail. Read OP and subsequent posts before posting! For any price range quad palit 3gb 580's is the best you can get. 6950's are good choices if price is a slight issue. If you're going sandy bridge when you upgrade and only have 2 pci-e x16 lanes then I would go with 2x 6990s. The 590s probably scale slightly better but I've heard aren't great OCers..ie "exploding". Ha.

The OP also never listed his case therefor might not be able to fit the longest card ever made. Also dosen't need 2GB or 3GB viedo card since he has a 23" 1920x1080p monitor, wont make a difference. Fail yourself.

Get a Core2Quad Q9550, another 2gb stick of ram, and either HD6950 or GTX 560.
That would be a great upgrade and would fit on your budget of 600$

He never said anything about his case, he simply asked what the best graphics card was. I have a 6990 for 1920x1200 and I don't consider it overkill. 3GB is most likely overkill, but maybe he's buying more monitors in the future you don't know. He asked for the best graphics card and I provided a few solid solutions.
