Just because you spend a lot on parts doesn't mean you are required to spend a lot of money on waterblocks if you don't absolutely have to. A cheaper solution is available and he is taking advantage of it. Is he not allowed to want to save money?

Why is that stupid?

GPU only blocks are way less restrictive and not adding the heat from the vrm's into the loop (albeit a minimal amount).
Basic little sticky heatsinks can be placed on the vrm's which require almost no airflow at all to work effectively.

They don't LOOK as good but when talking about function over form, I'd say they're better.
