hey man, Ive got a hyper 212 aswell, and I have been able to hit 4.4 on my 955 @56C so you should be a be to hit 4.5 np.

when I first bought my 212 I though about lapping it, but because the heatpipes have are direct contact design it makes it hard and IMO have a negligable effect compared to the huge gaps left by direct contact heatpipes. So i would worry more about filling the gaps with TIM and using the perfect amount.

upgrade your fan too, when I bench I use a 97cfm fam vs a normal 50cfm and the temps drop about 5C. push pull drop another 2C.

Im doing about 42c load with Prime95 on my 212+ in the stock config @ 4.4GHz 1.28v I spread the TIM with a CC and packed it in good between the pipes. Used the supplied TIM for the 212+ I cant say if this is good or bad but Im satisfied especially for the price. Cores stay below 70c usually in the 65c range full burn and my room is normally 65F - 70F

How did it turn out? As VanillaCena prompted before, I wouldn't want to lap a direct heatpipe, but the 212+ is pretty solid. I would feel comfortable lifting the mobo out of the case by the cooler, but I have less faith in my mobo's mount!

I was going to lap mine, but I just stuck with the tried and true method of filling in the gaps with smalls amounts of TIM (AS5). My load temps are at 73C @4.6GHZ, so I think I'm fine.

Not bad for a cheap cooler.

I used 1500 grit it's got a nice mirror finish. Didn't sand through the pipes so that's good. Whether or not it makes a difference I'll have to wait and see. I figured it was worth a try. If I killed it I'd just get better cooler anyway.

I'll be using shin etsu tim with the stock fan and one corsair fan that came with the h70 on my other rig. The same setup minus lapping saw a max of 72 and idle of 33 with my i3 at 1.4v 4.40ghz.

I hit 74C max during IBT with the new Linpack (which is way more stressful than Prime95 IMO) with my Hyper 212+ at 4500MHz....
