Here is something I learned from Windows. People say its a bug I thought also but then realized later on losing a 1Tb of data that its actually not one but a warning system more.

If windows reach 50 read errors on a hdd it will switch to pio mode. Fixing this you just uninstall the driver and it switch back to its original speed and mode. But if it happens again then backup. Drive failure iminent. To see if the disk is running in pio mode just go to device manager and check check the properties under the controller its on. But you will basically see if you drive runs in that mode coz you'll have sound drop outs and huge I/0 usage in taskmanager.
