I'm sorry, but Vista was not THAT bad. ME was my first OS on a pre-built PC and it was the most horrible experience ever. I remember that thing would blue screen daily. The only problems I had with Vista were WLAN issues and it becoming slow over time.
As for the debate at hand, OP, XP came out in 2001. If they released Windows 8 tomorrow, that makes no difference to Windows 7 and Vista. How can you even use that analogy? We are talking about 10 years since release vs 2 years & 5 years. What a ridiculous argument.
Fact of the matter is, XP is ancient now. Really, that's what it is. By your logic, they actually should be supporting OS like ME, and windows 95.
XP is now only used by business (which is actually in part because Vista was received very badly, and businesses are now reluctant to invest in a new OS again), very old PCs and people like you who can't let go. There is absolutely no reason not to upgrade to win7 now unless you really do have games that won't work at all in it.
I used win7 on my dual core with 2GB RAM because a game wouldn't work right in XP with AA on but would in win7. Win7 ran just fine on that PC and games worked fine too. So old hardware is a moot point unless you have a equally ancient single core PC.
In which case... why are you on overclock.net?
WTH. I never said "lets support ancient operating systems", the whole point of my thread is "if it doesn't work properly on a certain OS, DON'T PUT IT ON THE BOX". Read the damn thread before you post.
And this isn't elitebastards.com, this is overclock.net, making crap stuff go faster. This PC without 2 extra hard drives cost me less than my boss' office system to make, and his can't even run Runescape on low.Edited by Am* - 4/27/11 at 9:17am
