Nvidia DOESN'T support XP properly. - Page 4

You guys bashing the OP for using XP need to get a life.

Here's a perfect example of why Windows XP is still a valid operating system: many older games do not run on Windows Vista or 7 even in compatibility mode. /story

I have shelf full of games that will not run with new OS's, that's a fact. It's one of the reasons why I hated to make the switch, I am going to have to dual boot.

You folks also list DX 11 as a selling point for new games, which is fine, but how many games actually use full blown DX 11? Very few.

His points are valid and you guys are merely flaming him for his personal choice and not contributing to the thread one bit.

Jesus...you still don't get it do you?

Let's say tomorrow they'll release Windows 8 (which is as buggy and unstable as Vista/ME were) and Nvidia release 800 series GPUs and say Windows 7 is fully supported...Then you realise the card can't work to its full specs because apparently your OS lacks the ability to run the cards at full specs according to the manufacturer when that's not the case (because your manufacturer wants you to upgrade your OS instead of making them do 5 minutes of extra work to enable the same feature you can use in Windows 7). If they can't/don't want to support an older OS, DO NOT WRITE IT ON THE DAMN BOX AND IN THE SPECS THAT IT IS SUPPORTED. That's the whole point of this post. What pisses me off is that they deliberately stated that you can't run your card at the stated specs when you can.

Yeah they should start rolling out drivers for people still using Windows ME. Imagine the customer base then!

Their targeted customers are already using Windows 7 or Vista to utilize DX11. XP users don't represent a large enough percentage of gamers in order to justify refining drivers.

EDIT: And no, I don't understand why you continue to defend 10 year old OSes.

I built this PC purely to play older games that don't support Windows 7 and the new drivers (hell some of them freak out if you use CPUs with more than one core) and it's doing fine for that now.

OH LAWD XDDDD

Then why the dickens did you buy a GTX 460?

He asked to get flamed by the title of his post..... The flaming is just the reaction of him pissing everyone off. If you start out your post like that you better start it in your flame suit.

Windows 7 would still be fully supported. Especially if its realized to be incredibly buggy, manufacturers would work double quick to ensure Windows 7 would be able to use it properly. Its a relatively new OS, and the vast majority of people still use it. How far back do manufactures need to go? XP? ME? 3.1? Sorry, thats a poor analogy.

The reason XP is getting phased out is because its so old. 10 years is old in the computer world.

They do. You're running fine without any stability issues.

I am just boggled why you thought that you need a 460, since you have an ATHLON 3200+. What is the logic here?

That's because it's the only way for them to actually give a sh**. Lots of people have already asked Nvidia countless times to add this in, they only give back their automated response of "it doesn't support that" or ignore the question completely.

This. OP should have bought a 3dfx card or some other fossil card to use on his dinosaur OS.
