I'm wondering if i should get this or the Nexus S 4G when it comes out. I don't want dumb interfaces stopping me from upgrading my android platform and such. Any advice on the matter, Im still a noob in terms of android devices.

Yea, by this time next year you might be able to get the phone for free.

What's the word on US release time and carrier? Looking to grab an unlocked one, stuck w/ ATT

*Looking at how the last Galaxy S spread to every carrier though, I'd be surprised if we don't see this phone on at least Vzw and ATT (and t-mob).

battery seems to be in line with what slashgear is saying

You should be able to eek more battery out of the SGSII if you use black wallpapers and such
