So I'm trying to make up my mind which phone I should upgrade to, from HTC Desire.

The phones I'm currently checking out are Samsung Galaxy S II vs. HTC Sensation.

Full specs and comparison!

Which one would you pick, and why?

from all i've been hearing, the SGS II will have an unlocked bootloader while the sensation will have an encrypted bootloader (while will be EXTREMELY hard to unlock, if it ever happens).

Pick your poison, samsung with their brand reputation software wise, or htc with locked hardware.

SII as its has more RAM and more storage. Also a light phone is very nice. In terms of CPU/GPU power i am not sue how they fair but 1.2Ghz is more then enough.

I'm trying to make this same decision, and while I love the look of the Sensation, and I loved my old HTC Desire. I think I'm going to go with the S2.

Considering how phenomenal the Galaxy S is and the amazing previews and reviews of the S2. I think I'm going to go with the S2.

Dat screen.

Dat speed.

Just rumours isn't it? I thought these sort of rumours flew around before every htc's release but they all ended up with pretty similar boot loaders every single time.

What I want to ask the OP is why upgrade? There is nothing significantly better and your contract can't be over yet (I've only had my desire for a year now and i got it at release).

In almost every aspect, the Galaxy S2 will be superior.

1/2 as light.
1/2 as thick
more battery
better screen
faster processor

I'm in the current same situation. I've got an HD2 and I'm considering getting a new device, and the GS2 is the best phone on the market.

I don't have any contract and I would like slightly more powerful phone, and since I'm going to upgrade it I might just go all the way.

So far I guess I'd go for the Samsung.

Thanks for the replies, + rep!

More suggestions and ideas are welcome!

The Galaxy S 2 looks like it will be an international model like the original Galaxy S, so it might not be available on US carriers immediately. However, in my experience (I've got the Galaxy S) international phones usually get much more attention from XDA devs than ordinary phones, especially ones of the superphone caliber.

On the other hand, the Sensation comes with Sense, which would be a big factor for me as I just love the style of Sense, which Touchwiz cannot even come close to.

Is I've said I've got a desire too and I can easily get quadrant scores higher than dual core phones if I do a bit of tweaking. Plus its buttery smooth if set up right, how much have you hacked your desire? If you haven't even rooted you aren't getting anywhere near the full potential of your phone.

Right now I'm saying keep your desire, you won't see much if any difference upgrading.
