I have 3 questions that bother me

Thread Starter
I have 3 questions that are completly different.

On windows 7, i have the option to create system image or create backup, aren't they the same? what are the differences?

Graphics cards, is BIT important for games? If not what do i look for in a graphics card to know its good?

And final question is, my girl friend opened some link last night, and some virus checker or some rubbish came up scanning my system, I was guessing this was 100% a virus as I dont even have a virus checker on my pc, I did a system restore, does this mean its out my system for good now? or is it hidden somewhere in some folder? It does not pop up anymore but if the junk is still on my HDD somewhere i'd like to get rid of the trash.

A) No, they're different. Windows uses an image to restore the OS. A backup is simply a backup of files.

C) Nothing scans your system without being installed. That was just a website pretending to scan your system. Happens all the time. In the end it tells you there's a virus and to download something, and that is the virus.

Put virus-protection software on your computer, for your own good.

well she downloaded it then, this was defo a program on my pc as it was in my process + it messed with my system restore, I could only enter system restore by searching it from windows folder.

Well, since a system restore point only "restores" the OS to a previous state, and in this case the previous state was unprotected - I'd just recommend doing a fresh reinstall of windows.

Once you get your fresh install, put a real-time antivirus program on there to protect yourself from further intrusions. Keep the definitions updated and you'll be golden.

To question B)Yes it is important... The higher the BIT the more bandwith you get... i.e: 128-BIT IS slower than a 256-BIT equivalent card

EDIT... Its not really an example but you see my point...

Well before you reformat- if you're able to, boot into safe mode with networking, download Malware Bytes and then Spybot Search & Destroy, scan and eliminate any threats. Theres a couple things you might be able to do before having to reformat.

Also, a little bit more information on video/graphics cards. Aside from bit, another quick glance you can do that'll up the chances that it's a powerhouse videocard (aside from just looking at a more expensive price) is how many Stream Processing Units the card has if it's an AMD graphics card or how many Processor cores it has if it is an nVidia card.

will Avira AntiVir protect my system from most trash out there? I mean I dont really download anything, very rare I do, but i'd like to know if this program alone will protect me from every type of junk out there, or does anyone recommend something better?

Yeah, Avira consistently ranks pretty well among the free AV software out there. Avast, MSE and AVG are some other good options.

I'd also recommend running MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware once in a while. They're both free.
