You might be asking a bit much... good fans arnt cheap. If you dont want to drop 15-20 on a decent fan, you even more limited...not trying to be rude but I had to bite that bullet too...I'm using $20 fans right now...sucked to buy them but the performance is worth it.

This might be the fan for you. the price has droped some. Its an amazing fan too. Odd shape to it. but it fits in CM690II. I tend to dislike 140mm fans so maby some one else can get a better/cheaper idea in here

Whoa, that is something I completely overlooked, somehow I was sure the card's front (where ASUS logo is) is sucking the air in ...
Anyway, from my observations (hand+hot air), majority of the heat is dumped outside the case through either the rear or side fan hole (it aligns nicely). Fortunately card's front is where the VRMs are and the air there is really cool, (so cool that I was sure it's actually an intake) so I'm not really concerned about that.

I'll experiment a lot with fans once I actually get them, which is what I'm looking for at the moment - good case fans, esp. 140mm ones for horizontal mounts.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate all the help I got so far (everybody got +rep so far) so it's not like I ask for help then go "Nah, I know better", I've learned a lot so far .

As I said I'm quite happy with how the stock fans perform, although the placement is not optimal and they're all sleeve bearing so I can't mount them horizontally.
If need be I'll gladly shell out for Gentle Typhoons but I was just merely looking for any alternatives - something that comes in 140mm for example.

The first thing I would advise is fan on the back of the HD caddy. I found that was the worst part of the CM690II for cooling. Air slowed down over the HD's and then the GPU's failed to get the cool air it needed (as it was only being served by the floor fan).

I just strapped a 140mm Sharkoon to the back of the HD caddy and just by using my hand to feel, the amount of air movement is significantly increased:

Maby I came off a bit rude lol. I can be blunt at times in text was just saying that a cheap fan with ideal bearing style might not exist And I know how much it can suck...I'm looking at around 100+ in fans to get my set up where i want it lol.
I think the TY-140 is a great fan. I use the two that came with my cooler..not on the cooler but I use them in the case they arent that pricy at SVC.com too

This goes along with what I have found in this case...With larger Video cards, the case is almost split into two zone's. A top zone and bottom zone. This is why I use a top intake fan.

Another thing I found is that this case come swith the wrong PCI slot covers lol. If you use a fan off the back of the HDD cage, where dose the "extra" flow go? its not going to make it around the video card end exhaust out the top, not enough room for this to happen. Remove your PCI slot covers, or replace them with mesh or freeflowing covers. If you get your GPU to your peak temp with the PCI slot covers removed and a rear HDD fan you can feel warm air leaving the case thought the slots, also blows dust out..my case has no dust problems and im picky..droped the Antec 902 cus it was a giant dust bunny even with fan filters lol. hope this helps

I think the TY-140 is a great fan. I use the two that came with my cooler..not on the cooler but I use them in the case they arent that pricy at SVC.com too
TY-140 were actually one of the (minor) reasons I didn't go for Silver Arrow - they are ugly as sin.

I'll do the following:
- Remove PCI covers, or try to get meshed ones
- Move the front 140mm LED fan one notch down, so more air can get to the GPU
- Add 120mm fan at the bottom as intake
- Remove HDD bay (plan #1)
OR
- Add extra 120mm fan at the HDD bay (plan #2)

If I can find good slim fans, like Slip Streams perhaps, I could mount them on the side panel, else I might block off top slot and leave bottom as GPU's passive exhaust.

I'm not sure what to do with top fans, I'll most likely just remove the left exhaust as it looks absolutely unnecessary there and leave right one as intake. If what I think is correct then it should create positive pressure, forcing the hot air to exit through top-left and top side panel holes.

The fans are fugly as all get out..but they are nice they wont be in my case for long..not enough CFM for what i'm doing
Here is a shot of my case. I use all the same fan mounts in this pic, but have changed some of the fans.

On the top(what you cant see) is I have the left top fan blocked off. the right top fan is an intake, to supply cool air to the CPU cooler, it also pushed cool air DOWN into the GPU's little section. On the side pannle (the one with 2 fan mounts) I blocked off the top one. if you leave it opend the exhaust fan will pull more air from outside the case from that hole than from inside the case.

For the lower section, I have the front intake in the top most position to assist HDD cooling as much as possible, I also mounted my HDD in the bottom most mount(after the lower section of the cage was removed). Becouse the HDD cage and HDD are blocking the part of the front fan, I use the lower side pannel fan, a fan on the back of the HDD rack, and a bottom mount intake fan to deal with the GPU temps. The fan on the back of the HDD rack helps keep the "dual zone" thing working, it push's any air the CPU cooler dosnt pick up form the top intake out the back of the case(the mesh PCI slots).
The fan on the HDD rack also helps cool the HDD. The bottom intake fan make's sure there is plenty of cool fresh air coming into the bottom zone too. The side pannel fan also brings in alot of cool air. All this cool air and focus on the bottom zone is needed becouse a GPU can hit higher peak temps than the CPU, making it harder to cool. There is also a PSU sitting in the bottom of the case(mine is mounted up side down) to add to the heat in the bottom zone. What you cant see is that all intake fans have a second screen filter on them.
Results/temps in my case: Cpu idles at room temp(21c/71f durring this test) CPU load after 8 hours prime95 long FFT's @ stock clocks(955be3.2ghz) and 1.550Vcore(max safe voltage) 37c peak.
GPU(GTX460 with a OC) idles at room temp. 4 hours of evga test software(100% GPU usage @ 1080p and 345 FPS) was 45c.

I have put more time than I should have on testing AirFlow in this case..and the Antec 902 lol, this is the set up that worked the best so far each rig is diffrent so my cooling set up may not work well for other setups, my work better in some one else's rig. Hope this helps you out some keep posting what happends with your rig. I wanna know how it turns out. best of luck!

Thanks a lot, you have helped me so much with all the tips and good ideas!

If I remove the HDD cage I can't mount fan on there because graphic card is in the way so it's either HDD cage + fan on it, or no HDD cage or fan, I like the former option more as I can have up to 5 HDDs installed at times.

I have a question though: How did you block the top fan spot? I'm not too happy about using cardboard or something like that because I'm trying to have this rig as ghetto-free as possible, no ziptie mounted fans, no ducktaped stuff etc, I've had enough of that in previous rigs (zip-screwed Athlon 64 fan onto 9600 GT stock heatsink, what a 4-slot nightmare it was) .


Guess I'll have to invest in fan controller and some good fans then!

I hear you on the no zip tie's for fans lol...mine is a temp solution fabing up bracets for the fans lol. At craft store's you can get this foam pad that is 1/8 inch thick and sticky on one side, I got it at hobby lobby or michaels or somthing like that for a buck a sheet. I used it to make my case gromets, and bock off the two fan spots. ill admit the one on the side pannel dose look kinda ghetto..mount it on the inside for the least amount of ghettoness lol. I pan on using a window side pannel so it wont be so ghetto when i'm done
