Need replacement for GTX460 SLI

One of the fans on one of my GTX460 HAWK 1GB makes an awful rattling noise. I don't know which one it is, but it's driving me bonkers. As such, I need a replacement GPU ASAP...

I was thinking of a GTX580, but as far as I can tell there's no way for me to set up the deed to my house as collateral, so it's a bit out of my reach.

My question is, can a GTX570 be OCed to beat GTX460 sli? Or at least come within spitting distance of it?

Well 2 460s generally beat 580 by a very small amount most of the time at 1080p & under. So if you OC a 570 to 580 level, you may have the same performance as 2 stock 460s but with less problem (driver/microstuttering/heat/power) due to single card setup.

I doubt you'll get a 570 to equal 460 SLI, especially with the weak VRM issue.

If you want to isolate which card is the problem, disable SLI (in the driver). If it keeps happening, it's the top card. If it only happens when SLI is enabled, it's the bottom card.

Then RMA that card. Problem solved.

Edit: I may have read that wrong. You meant one of the 2 fans on the card? Just RMA it?

after removing one of my cards to reach a jumper on my mobo and then reinstalling it, i noticed one of my hawks was making an irritating fan noise. i opened the case back up and listened to determine that it was my lower card (the one i had removed...surprise surprise). i took it out, spun each propeller fan with my hand a few times, reseated it, and the problem went away. i'm sure you've tried something similar, but thought i'd suggest it in case you hadn't. if you can't solve the problem then RMA the card because you won't get equivalent performance from a GTX 570. the only step from here would be to go with a GTX 580.

Just did that. Reseated both cards, the problem seems to have gone away, but I'm not holding my breath. I guess i'll just have to deal with the rattle until the GT600 series of cards.

The problem seems to be resolved. Now I just get massive, earth-shattering coil whine whenever I play Crysis for more than 45 minutes. I just can't win, lol.
