[engadget]TomTom user data sold to Dutch police - Page 2

Years ago I used to drive over 3000 miles per week and, along with other high-mileage users, got an e-mail from TomTom asking if they could use the data for something they had in the works. Turned out to be IQ Routing which adds historic information to route planning. I got a big discount on a new map, which was nice; looks as if they aren't as polite nowadays.

What were you doing to rack up 3000 miles a week? When I was a truck driver, driving 6 says a week 12 hours a day I barely broke 3k.

Easy, our normal run was Glasgow to Birmingham and back which is about 500 miles. Very often we returned via other cities which made it even longer. Did a 700 mile run once; nearly killed me. Government contract using un-restricted mini buses. Made an absolute fortune until Health and Safety shrieked and we were cut to a five day week with no more than 50 hrs driving.

Too bad they didn't do this in Michigan. There are laws to prevent speed traps where if a large enough portion of traffic drive over the speed limit then the speed limit is wrong and needs to be raised. To bad it isn't retroactively enforced because some idiots tied it up in red tape.
