Going from a GTX570 to 6870 - Page 2

I know that people that have a 6870 with an arti cooler on it are idling at about 28 and loading about 50 and its dead silent to top that off. That is why I am so interested in it..

Theres a decent drop in performance. If your worried about loud cards the 6870s are screamers with reference cooling so you might wanna pick up an aftermarket heatsink at the same time.

How does your 5770 fair?

Also we buy EVGA for warranty and customer service. They're the only company that doesn't hassle you to RMA a product. Such as XFX who claims that someone spit on the back of their PCB and that's why it was malfunctioning.

EDIT: Just so you guys know I had a 6870 and if you want to pick on crappy reference coolers then OP you picked the perfect card.

My 6870 made horrible fan noise above 45% and would still hit over 70C with a 975MHz OC.
my god dude you really got offended by my comment about evga ??

seriously Im on Overclock.net or in gametrailers ?

Personal experience tells me I can run BFBC2 1920x1080 @ 8xAA, 16xAF, all highest (HBAO off) with virtually no performance hit over 0xAA.

And 1920x1080 isn't far off from 1920x1200.

Get a 6950 at least.

A 6870 is not meant to compete with the GTX 570, it's meant to compete with the 560 Ti.

he was not offended, learn to read. He is trying to point out that you have no clue what you are talking about. Also your your previous comment was much, much more "fanboyistic" than his was because he has actually owned both products.

Back to topic - Dont downgrade from a 570 to 6870... are you turning your fan speed really high? that is more than likely why. People here who bought AMD cards didn't buy it for the noise because AMD cards are infact louder than the 500 series. They buy it because it of price/performance, which is excellent.

But if you are switching from nvidia to AMD, i, like all others, recommend the 6950.

The 6950 is a nice card no doubt. But its very long and loud. The 6870 is nice and small and can be fitted with the twin turbo, which I don't think the 6950 can.

Exactly. Everything aside from the 5770 and XFX comment were pure fact, those comments were just rude I sorry.

I loathed every gaming session I had with my reference cooled Gigabyte 6870. I actually NEEDED to buy a set of headphones to comfortably hear the game I was playing.

My 580 on the other hand has lower temperatures on both idle and full load than my 570 did. Yes, I owned a 570 too, wasn't fast enough for me . The 6870 was the first card in this system and I was planning on Crossfiring it, that is until I heard the cooler! My gosh!

You will see a huge hit in performance but with the Arctic cooler it might work fine and quiet.

HD6870 is certainly slower but not by much.

Not sure how well it overclocks though.

HD6950 is not that strong compared to HD6870.

Have you considered an HD6970 2GB?

You can install an Accelero Xtreme Plus on it, also on the HD6950 2GB

I think the relevant fact is that while the 6870 performs significantly worse than a 570, he won't actually SEE that performance hit in BC2
