Installing new Motherboard - Kinda need help

Hello fokes

A couple of weeks ago my old mobo broke down for reasons unknown to me, so I decided to order a new one. It took a while for it to arrive sadly, but today I finally got it, and after unscrewing+plugging all the stuff from my old motherboard and rescrewing and replugging everything I tried booting up the computer (bear in mind that this is the first time I try installing a motherboard so my knowledge is quite limited).

The computer showed a bootup screen leading to me letting out a small squiek of victory, and after that it went to a black bootup screen saying "looking for OS". I figured I needed to run the startup cd provided with the new motherboard (yeah, I'm pretty smart), and it launched a program which seemed to be running quite fine, but then it went errormessage-ish saying: "IDE drive does not exist or all primary partitions are occupied".

I guess you people got a pretty good idea of what might be wrong so please do tell, and if you got further questions regarding BIOS or so I'll be here to answer.

You've set in your bios to boot from your HDD correct? If it fails to do that with a working HDD then all I can guess is you need to update the bio's or reinstall windows 7.

Most of the time, a new motherboard needs a fresh os.

@Yumyums
Well, I've tried booting it from my HDD, but it just kinda skips trying and goes right to the bootup screen where it goes:
"Loading Operating System ...
Boot from CD/DVD :
Press any key to startup XpressRecovery2"

And that's it, but I haven't really installed Windows 7 yet on my new motherboard, should that be like the first thing I did? (I kinda just thought that the OS would be stored on the HDD allready p_p)

Reinstalling Windows 7 might do the trick. Since you replaced the motherboard, I think the chipset drivers and other files may not be compatible with your new MB. So it is usually best to do a clean install of the OS when you switch MBs.

Keep in mind that there may be some conflict between the Gigabyte motherboard and some HDD-s made by Seagate and Hitachi.
It s about the Xpress Recovery feature which rewrites some sectors at the begining of the HDD.
Because of buged HDD firmwares you may end up practically loosing partitions thus no boot-up from OS.
Take a look with the HDD vendor utility and see if the HDD is seen with it s entire capacity.
If it s a WD or Samsung HDD , it s not this you simply need to reinstal due to other reasons.
Also see the AHCI/IDE Mode status in BIOS ,for the SATA drive you use.
If with the old mobo you ve used AHCI then you will need to reinstall anyway.
