To all those that think lga 1366 is dead. - Page 8

LGA1366 is at that point to where those still on it, have no real motivation/reason/gain to be had by moving from it, but it's at the point where most people below it shouldn't move onto it, but rather LGA1155. So it's in transition, between a rock and a hard place. Most people who NEED six cores already are on the socket, so that excuse is only half valid to say it's useful for some people who aren't on it. So, it's kind of just... there I guess. Strictly speaking, it's dead. Performance has nothing to do with it, so saying it's dead doesn't mean it's incapable.

Core i7 (Nehalem) initially didn't offer me anything. At the time, I had no use for four cores, and minus the extra threads and Hyper-threading, it's Core i3 equivalent shows it trading blows with my Core 2 in games, so I skipped the socket as it wasn't worth cash for a CPU/motherboard/RAM for similar IPC/performance in the end. Sandy Bridge is faster yet, but I'm wondering if I should skip that and make my gains even larger. I might wait until Ivy Bridge. I mean, I'd be grabbing a Core i5 to sell it for one anyway even IF I got it now.

LGA775, AM2, LGA1366, AM3, LGA1155, they're all still potent. I'd say it's good that as many older stuff is still relevant, but half the reason there's that many is Intel's fetish with changing sockets all of the time.

That right there just proves that lga 1366 is still a very strong socket and still has many benefits left to it.
This reasoning is so flawed, I don't know whether to cry or laugh.

I guess we should have stopped designing new CPUs by the time Celeron D came out, since it ranks as one of the highest clocking CPUs ever made.

There were some Core 2 Duo chips that reached 6ghz, so what's the point? Should we stop there?

Seriously, OP. You have a lot to learn.

This thread is a disgrace.

meh I have the slowes 1366 processor and I am not complaining this computer is working fine for me for a looooooong time (I hope) barring the end of the world in 2012 or another pipe bursting and trying to leak onto my freaking computer.. as long as none of that happens I think I will get much use out of this processor /mobo.

My last pc was a single core AMD 3800+ (oc'd) Its in my systems, I had that till like 6mo ago when I got Corei7.

This, didn't P4's hit like 7GHz? Are they not dead then?

1366 is "on its last leg" for gaming, and when SBe comes out 980x will be just another old chip.

It takes a 980x LN2 to get where I can go with my $200 i5-2500k.

There is no comparison between the two when it comes to price vs performance, at least for gaming which is key since 1366 is losing to mainstream chips now.

Yeah his gpu score being lower with the same cards at nearly the same overclock x16 x16 vs x8 x8 and games not using 12 threads.

Point is, even on LN2 980x won't push gpus as far as a $200 SB chip with sub $200 mobo.
