well if nothing was stolen, then nothing will happen......but if it is as serious as people say, and sensitive data WAS stolen, like names, addresses, credit card information, well pretty much what one would need to.....idk.....commit fraud?........then i hope they get bent over properly.......prison like

[CVG]Sony sued over PSN data breach
[Reuters] Sony may face global legal scrutiny
oh lol.
Thinking that Identity Theft is a push-off crime is something you should never take lightly. I think anyone who reacts to this by Suing is covering themselves for anything that may happen to them financially, since Sony was late to respond the warning that data may have been leaked. Potentially every person who feels they have some Identity Theft suit will jump this bandwagon soon enough, especially if Sony cannot find the perpetrator(s).

So what do you suggest? People should do nothing about it since other companies keep quiet about it too? What an insight! /sarcasm I guess the attorney generals who are currently investigating this situation and the consumers who are affected by this should do NOTHING.

The ones that get caught should be held accountable whether or not other companies try to hide these kinds of information.

The same people who are calling the guy who filed the lawsuit an idiot probably still lives with their parents and never had a CC or has one paid by their mommy. These hackers can easily use your address, birthday etc etc and have their identities stolen. And afterwards your credit score will be in the toilet, and no banks will ever give you a mortgage and you will never get a decent job.

Agreed. Identity theft isn't a joke.

I got a nice email from Sony saying, and I qoute,
Quote:
we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following
information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country,
email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login,
and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data,
including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip),
and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may
have been obtained
You bet I am concerned and quite upset. Do I want this guy to get an obscene amount of money from this? No. Do I hope that they find the person(s) that did this? Yes. If there is financial harm done to anyone, it is Sony's obligation to give reparations to the victims.
