Should Sony have mentioned up front that the Credit Card and Personal Data was in reach of being apart of this hacking/network breach, or in other words that client's information was possibly in the hands of a thief, then they could have prevented some of the hammering they are going to get.

Unfortunately, by waiting, and yes it may have been a call that just took too long to make, since this was a sensitive matter. If they could catch the perpetrader or find what was taken if anything from their network, then they may not have had to say anything.

However, being that they have not caught the culprit, their only turn here was to warn customers, and while that may grant the Suing party to some leverage, the Terms of Agreement must be read through carefully for clauses that may save Sony's ass. Remember those things we all click, "Yes, I Agree." Well that is possibly Sony's free ticket out of this mess.

What a jerk, kicking sony while its down just because he can. Im sure he was not even personally affected by this.

really though someone heeds to smack this fool in the face, hard.
for anyone who makes a comment like the one above. Sony will never, ever ever at any time not kick you when your down. They are a billion dollar company that cares only for shares and stock price.

some one needs to smack this guy in the face even harder

From seeing what has been posted... about what was available or stolen... it does not look like any CC #'s were there just billing addresses.....

Not That I am for Sony or Aginst, should someone on Facebook Sue Facebook because somehow someone hacked into to their page and got some pictures they has posted and have now caused harm?

You have to have some expectation or at least know that no matter what if someone spends enough time and resources they can hack into anything that is connected to the internet. While at the same time you should have the expectation that the company will do every thing it can to prevent it.

With the RSA key security breach about a month back, I do not see any companies suing them with the pretext that some industry secrets may have gotten out.

The thing about this is it should be for credit monitoring only. And it takes a few min to put a block on your account. My Identity had been stolen but i am lucky the guy only opened a few cell phone numbers. All I had to do to clear it up was get a police report and fax it to the companies. I then also sent a copy of the report to the credit agencies and they have a 5 year lock on my account, no one can do anything even look at my credit with out me getting a phone call and either approving or denying access to have them even pull my credit.

Until there is any evidence that there was monetary harm done this law suite is a joke. Do I sue the Huge marketing firm that might have given millions of emails out to people to do phishing scams?

Edit: While Sony does have deep pockets... they like to keep deep pockets, so when they come out with the PS4 and your moaning why the price is $500 when it only costs XXX to make or why the new TV is so much, or so on... its because of the may law suits that they need to constantly either defend or prosecute. It is not longer just the engineering time and marking of the component. It is to the share holders and the board, and they like money, when some one takes it they will get it back 1 way or another... and that if through the selling of their products.

If this was XBL I would understand as its a service that costs a lot of money, PSN however, is free.

What a douche, its not like they wont get punished enough for this by the drop in sales that will follow....

...and I wouldnt be surprised if the EU wants to slap a big fat fine on them, I dont know why, but it seems like the sort of thing the EU dishes out fines for.

The CC data was viewed, but since it is binary, and copied, and not a physical entity, the CC data still remained in place. Since none of the stolen CC's have been abused yet to anyone's knowledge, Sony is in the clear for their PR Spin Doctors to release some spin-lies. It can't be proven if I view a website that I copied the data down. I could have just viewed it and left. I could have viewed it and saved all the data. A PR Spin Doctor can then say that it does not appear that I took the website data when I viewed it. They know I viewed it, but that is as much as they can tell.

The CC data was viewed, but since Sony can't know if it was taken or not, they can get away with the PR Spin lies that they are spreading.

Lets prove this fact another way. If Sony was sure the CC data was not copied, they would come out and say so. Instead, since they know it was copied, they give you some BS that "we did not see it being taken, but change your security anyway".

Like I said, you're the only ignorant one here. The CC data was taken, anyone who denies this fact is lying for the sake of trolling.

Sony is done. The PS4 is cancelled. PlayStation is no more. $6 billion USD in debt and now this A-Bomb is dropped on them. They're going to be in so much debt, I don't even know, it's just so funny how much debt they will be in within the next few months. They're so dead. Bye PlayStation, nice knowing you. Not.

Omega has the best response for this.

Yes, you get past encrypted data so easily. You just "viewed it and left".

OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM SONY:

http://www.overclock.net/video-game-news/1001912-joystiq-sony-new-ps3-firmware-accompany.html

stop spreading your stupid fanboy lies and speculation. You have no evidence, you contradict yourself so much, you spew total nonsense.

The only trolling here is you Corky. For about a dozens threads. Everything you've said is either a lie or total speculation on your part. If it isn't that, it's complete utter nonlogical nonsense that doesn't make a complete thought like how it was a "conspiracy" for example.

@Corky, you make me lose hope for this world.

I posted this in the other thread, but I believe that the Security Question information was taklen along with email addresses and personal information. That's a potent mix of information that could put anyone at risk. How often do you chnage your security questions up? Not often.

Anyone saying that Sony are responding well to this have to look from the outside in. I got the email stating that I should check my credit reports and it also gave me a small lesson in identity theft. It also took Sony too long to confirm this information to the public. How many days before we got accurate information? If they are so sure about this information then why all of the warnings in the email? The fact is they don't know, won't admit that they don't know, but are telling people they do know. Also this information about the CC info being encrypted.....well if the server housing the encrypted CC info was compromised you have a BIG problem.
