Looking for new headphones.... HELP!

Thread Starter
Hey OCN,

I'm looking to purchase new headphones used mainly in listening to HIGH QUALITY music, so I'd like quality of sound to be on the top of the priority list. I don't really have a budget, nor do I know how much HQ headphones cost, so 200-300 for now.

Also, Needs to be large cans, I have big ears Anyways....

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys,

-B

They don't need to be so expensive. HD 555s should be pretty good for this.

You have a lot of research to do before you drop big money on cans.

You need a DAC/Amp to properly drive and even make them sound good. I'm not sure you even have a sound card, but maybe you already have an external DAC, who knows? We don't. You haven't given us any information on what you have, what you're planning on using, what your music tastes are etc..

You still need an amp to really get the most out of headphones. You can get a good headphone amp from around $100.

I can recommend the beyerdynamic DT770 (250 ohm)s though.

A DAC is #1 priority before an amp imo - sure you might need an amplifier to drive certain headphones, but what's the point if you're amplifying poo. Do you have any components already? How will you be using them? In that price range I would go for Denon D2000 - but you're really turning them into $50 headphones if you're not using a quality source. They don't require an amp however. If you want to factor an amp/soundcard/dac into the purchase - well, the possibilities are endless and we will need much more information.

In all honesty, the upgrade path should be Headphone, Amp then DAC.. All 3 at the same time is preferred.
