They are by far one of the most unreliable cards in existence. It really is like a lottery as to whether you get a good one or a bad one.
had one.....used it for over a year without issues......sold it to a friend.....still kicking

So did I. Had a Sapphire 4890 in a Phenom II 965 rig, both sold to a dude I know, it's still working as well.

Not everyone was so lucky. See here.

Get a 6850/6870 instead and crossfire later if you want a cheap upgrade. Quad/Tri GPU scaling isn't that great and it will be difficult to sell the card later on as opposed to a 68 series card.

If you can afford to, buy something a little more modern. It's still a beast, but as technology progresses, it's rivals become cheaper and more appealing.

I have one, but either it's broken, or my dying PSU can't handle it. Didn't have it long :/

I don't think he's planning on buying one now. I'm glad he isn't, a lot of ebay sellers were trying to sell these dodgy models off back when 5XXX ATI cards were released. Chances are, the ones left over now were part of the bad batches.

It turned out to be in very rough shape. It artifacts really bad, and performs very poorly. I'm pretty sure no work went into this card at all... it seems as though they just repackaged someone's RMA'd card and flogged it on Tigerdirect in hopes the buyer wouldn't notice any problems.

Here is an example of my artifcating problem in 3DMark06.

Holy **** thats bad! my single 4870 has never done that. Op I say you go with 68XX or 5XXX less power and slightly on level performance.
