Crucial M4 128GB or C300 256GB for £40 more - Page 2

Great stuff guys. It's nice when everyone agrees.

I've been reading that the C300 is actually better when it comes to random read and that's what actually matters most! But again in real term like you said there's probably not much in it in everyday use. I understand the point of just having that extra freedom of 128GB too.

Final question (I hope): This is going to cost about $15-20 more than a Vertex 3 120GB so would you still go for the C300 256GB over the Vertex 3?

Yes. Vertex 3 is fast, but again...I would still opt for the extra storage space as the Vertex 3 is not that much faster than the C300 and you will not notice it in "real-world" use...probably only in synthetic benchmarks which are utterly useless (practically), IMHO.

Excellent, let's just hope that I can get it that price and hope it has proper warranty (I assume it does as it's new).

I won't be getting the full out of it until I upgrade to a SATA III or get a 6GB/s add-on card.

Agreed about benchmarks. I find them baffling and can often lead to spending more money on the wrong product. I'll let the nerds fantasise about them but for most people it's about real term performance that's actually noticeable, that's why I ask my questions on this forum.

mmm I am having second thoughts actually as it's from America so I could get hit with tax/customs which could push the price up by another £40.

If that is the case. Go for whichever is cheapest.
