X3 450 won't overclock at all!

Thread Starter
Hey guys I just added a new ram stick to my pc its a ddr2 1066 2gb and it only works at 1066 if I have my cpu stock at 3.2.

So my question is.... Why can't I oc my cpu back to 3.6 like it was with the old DDR2 800... I added the voltage to the dram to 3.2. And also added voltage to my cpu. At 3.4-3.6 my comp just restarted itself to the bios. But at 3.3 it turned off and won't turn on unless I unplug the power outlet and plug it back... I'm confused.

1066 is probably the max speed that your ram and motherboard can run at, I would just set your ram back to 800. The speed difference between 800 and 1066 isn't that noticable.

Edit: This is especially true if your ram is just a generic stick.

only if you bump up the FSB, which I'm guessing is what you're doing

Edit: raising the FSB affects your CPU, ram, NB, and HT speeds accordingly.

the only way for him to overclock is via fsb, that's not a BE chip

3.6 cpu and Ram at 800, try upping your NB too. You'll see more improvement there as well.

Edit: nah, you don't fail, you just have more headroom

your fsb is 200, if you raise it to 260 for instance your ram will be 1040(260*4) That is why you need to set your ram at 800
