I remember reading about a theory saying that mammals sleep because it's a mechanism that forces us to conserve energy due to the scarcity of resources (i.e. food).
There's just always been the rhythm of day/night. And we've developed with that in mind

But ya I can see what you are saying, but I dont think that an amphetamine can "wake" those parts of the brain. Maybe for some people but for, umm, my friend, he still felt half awake when on it for a period of time

Weird. I play better when I'm exhausted it feels like the game is slower, but my reaction time is the same as if I was well rested.

I get better at programming when all the extraneous areas of my brain shut off. This is only initially.

Im sure its the same idea why the game of pool seems easier after a couple of drinks, as the "second guess" parts of your brain start to shut down and you start to play on instinct. That is until the "I can draw straight lines" parts start to shut down then it becomes much much harder

This would explain the reasoning for poor performance with lack of sleep, Interesting read.

Great, so my biological C&Q kicks in after X amount of waking hours, and the only way to enter bios to shut it off is with illegal drugs??

...no Officer, its for Overclocking use only!!

...I wonder if I can 'download' THC-Z to find out where my clocks are set, and what frequency I'm running at?!

Has anybody thought this is a bit similar to a dolphin's brain? They're half asleep when trying to sleep since they need to still surface and get oxygen.
