4870 CF or Upgrade

Thread Starter
Hi I'm looking to upgrade my GPU setup and am wondering what you guys think between:
Crossfiring a Sapphire 4870 1gb (I already have 1) or upgrading to a 5850 xtreme or 6850 or some other ~$150 card.
I recently had to return a 5850 xtreme for being defective, so I'm a little worried about that option. What are your thoughts?

4870 crossfire will be stronger than a 5850 or 6850, its probably your cheapest option and will get good results as long as you don't care about DX11

(4870 = 5770 w/o DX11, and in some games is faster than the 5770)

Although performance is similar between the HD 4870 and the HD 5770, the HD 4870 ends up being faster in scenarios where memory bandwidth is more important, due to the 256bit memory bus. The HD 5770 has a 128bit.

However, this isn't at all important to the matter at hand.

Back on topic, I would say 2 HD 4870s in CF will still be quite powerful, but even an overclocked HD6870 can be faster.

For example, with 1ghz core and 1150mhz memory, I get 18k GPU score in vantage.

While 2 HD 4870/5770 in crossfire will get around 17k GPU score.
