Could credit card information have been stolen in PSN hacking?

Thread Starter
One of the guys I was eating lunch with explained that there was a random $450 charge on his dad's debit card. The card was connected to his PSN account because he purchases map packs and stuff like that.

Just wanted to know if it could have been from PSN or his dad's card info was stolen some other way. Pretty scary if the hackers got that information o_o

you know what is messed up is that I just had an 80 & a 75 dollar charge on my credit card. I called the credit card company & they have cancelled my card & are sending me a new one. I will no longer put my information on Xbox live or PSN

I gotta keep an eye on mine now.

That's a definite possibility. I've cancelled the card attached and requested a new one. I'm not willing to take chances.

They've already said that credit card info most likely wasn't stolen, and that the CVC number definitely wasn't. These charges most likely have nothing to do with PSN.
according to this source someone had 2,000 charged on his Credit Card from an unknown source.

Don't go talking bad about XBOX over Sony's problem! Microsoft has never had account hacking problems on Xbox ever. (Spoken like a true Fan-Boy) lol but really

This is how I stay safe when buying anything online.

1 find out what the total amount of your purchase will be, including tax, and shipping.

2 go to your bank, and get a Visa gift card in that exact amount.

3 use the gift card for your purchase

4 throw card away afterwards.

There is no more money on the card, so even if someone does get the info about the card np there is no money on it anyway.

Gift cards are only $3 dollars USA. A cheap price to pay to know you are safe.
