i7 950 OC Sabertooth x58 Headache :(

Thread Starter
I have been trying exhaustively to overclock my rig and get it stable. I want to reach 4ghz.

I have read countless forums, with countless configurations. I have had no success.

Most of the time, one of my cores drops from 100% load while running Prime95. If that doesn't happen, the computer either freezes, or I get the BSOD.

I have a pretty good water-cooled loop, so temps should be pretty manageable.

Here are the settings I have:

start bumping your Vcore man. 1.25V is not enough.

I have the same setup as you, I was only able to get 4ghz with a multi of 20x and blck of 200 which brought my ram to 1600mhz @1.65v, qpi at 1.3v and a vcore of 1.33750(bios) 1.336v in cpu z. all other voltages on auto. Ran stable but got a max temp of 80c on core 0 , that's with a corsair h50 so with a water loop it should be no prob. Cpu amp might help, cpu pll going from 1.8 to 1.88 didn't make any difference.

they say average for 4ghz is 1.32 - 1.35v on the 950 unless you get a good chip

You need to crank it up to 1.35v on the CPU Voltage and go up or down from there.

Try using 23 x 175 @ 1.3v and work your way down.

That must be a joke.

I'm stable at 1.28v and I've seen a bunch of people on here with sub 1.3v 4GHz.

@blackbalt: not all chips perform well..either way they could just have done a hit and run with sub 1.3v vcore..and never ran them on a regular test basis like benching or such as a regular 24/7 clocks..

@OP: try adding vcore and if you're able to find the sweet spot then fine tuning is your next step for you to refine/trim down some settings..

Try turning that off.

And to the people saying you need that much voltage to get the 950 to 4.0 is a little off. I'm at 4.0 at 1.232v and it has been completely stable. In fact, it was more stable than when it was at 1.3 so food for thought. Keep messing with your settings you will find the right setup.

Just like kairi said not all chips preform the same. I need 1.33v for 4.0(200x20)& 1.35v for 4.2(200x21) that's with ht. If you read around you still see I wasn't kidding and Most of these chips need 1.32+ for 4ghz . If you're getting 4.0 with 1.23v you must be blessed by the cpu gods. Also you can do what blackbalt suggest and go with a lower blck and try the highest odd multi of 23 and workyour blck up to youre liking, which would result on lower voltages but you take a hit with the ram speed.
