Opinion on safe sandy bridge voltage

Thread Starter
What voltage would you use for an everyday overclock on a sandy bridge cpu. I have 1.4v on mine now at 4.7 ghz. Intel says max is 1.52. What do you all use?

If I had one I wouldn't feel safe going over 1.45v for 24/7

1.45v 24/7. Also what about dinosaurs?

I use 1.35 and I think is the intel max safe range. Never saw 1.52 mentioned before. 72C case temp is max I saw as well, no official SandyB CPU temp.

Having said all that, I do not think Sandy B has the degradation issues that early 980Xs had (the previous 32nm arch). I know guys like splave are running 1.65 at 5.8GHz as long as their CPU is running. (He has bought over 25 2600Ks though to find that magic 5.8GHz chip)

thermal cycling is more important to degradation i think. IE if you chill air during the winter and hot load it during the summer. (Or do other forms of extreme cooling periodically). propbably has more of an impact than any extreme voltages.

(I have run 1.6 through my 2500K trying to post a 52x multi.. no go... ) Only need 1.35 to be stable at 4.5 though.. and can post and some benches at 1.3v )

1.5 sounds okay if you are keeping it cool. A good water kit should have you at 5GHz then.

I stick with 1.35V, but that's more because I can't control the heat and less to do with voltage. I wouldn't go above 1.5V though, even if I did have WC.

Really? I don't have water cooling but at 1.4 I never go above 60c.

Everyone's ambient temperatures are different unfortunately

The vcore range of the chips is like 1.1v to 1.52v, intel says 1.52 is safe, so use it. If it kills your chip just play dumb and RMA. I personally ran a chip at 1.55v for a bit and I think I may have caused some damage. After a day or two of prime 95 I couldn't get my old OC stable again at the same voltage.

For 24/7 I say 1.45v and keep the temps under 75C.
I'm running 1.384v on full load and hottest core hits 65C.

What clock speeds are you running? I fold on all 8 threads, and at 4.8GHz it gets up to a toasty 70C. Prime85 pushes it to low 80's, and I'd rather not go any higher than that. Somehow my chip can do all this at 1.35V.
