Best 2.1 speakers for 600 bucks

Thread Starter
I'm looking for the best 2.1 speaker setup for my computer. I'll be using it for music and gaming equally. Also I just bought an omega striker 7.1 sound card but not sure if it's ideal for what i'm trying to do here. Overall, I have about $600 to spend behind this. What would you guys recommend I get with my budget??

Thanks !
I strongly suggest you research the best speakers you can get for your money because those are definitely not the ones. Also, with those speakers, you shouldn't buy anything more than a Xonar DX, an 80-90 dollar card. You simply won't see an improvement beyond them.

I strongly suggest you seek a nice 2.1 setup for your price range and you will be infinitely happier. Get a pair of headphones for gaming and movies since it seems that's what you're aiming at with 5.1. Trust me there are some very comfortable headphones that won't make your head hurt from clamping or fatigue or getting excessively hot and sweaty.

I won't lie I'm a complete noob when it comes to audio, I have my own place so ground shaking bass etc wouldn't be an issue at all. In fact I'm rather a fan of it.

If I really want to stick with 5.1 speakers or even 7.1, what would you recommend? Also, what is the benefit of using 2.1 speakers?

It's not so much an issue of 5.1 or 7.1. Home theaters often cost more than 5000 dollars and are properly set up 7.1 systems..its the COST of these that is the real problem. Your dollars could go much farther QUALITY wise with a 2.1 than a 5.1 set up. For instance, you could spend 350 dollars on Z5500s which are 5.1, but they won't sound ANYWHERE near as good as a proper 2.1 setup for 350 dollars. The 2.1s will be so much clearer. The bass will be so much more proper and thumpy/punchy etc rather than bloated and fat and disgusting like Logitechs will give you.

So if you're truly looking for 5.1 we can help you get a proper 5.1 but those Logitechs are FOR SURE not what you want if you AT ALL care about music/sound quality. You're also going to need a sound card/DAC to truly make the most out of your speakers and we can help you along the way, trust me, we can, but we need a budget to truly help you reach your goal.

So here's something to think over. Think about how much you want to spend. Think about how important 5.1 SPEAKERs are to you as opposed to nice headphones that will do that same and for gaming probably do it better, especially for the price.

For 500 dollars we can get you seriously hooked up with a nice 5.1 setup including subwoofer.

If you can't spend that much, start to consider 2.1 and headphones. Even if your budget is 350 or something, I'm sure someone can help you set up a nice 5.1 that will outperform those logitechs.

I mean hell, even ProMedia 5.1's will outdo those logitechs.

Now that you've stated a budget and opened your mind to really getting the best for your money we can all help you. I must admit there are better people much more suited to help you with a solid 5.1 setup.

There's the classic Polk Audio Monitor 40/50/70s route +center speaker + BIC America subwoofer or some other subwoofer of your preference and a receiver to round it all up.

But seriously, I think you would be better placed in someone elses care on helping you set up the nicest 5.1 for your money.

You can also do your own research while others take their time to come across this thread. Hit up Head-fi.org and type in the search bar "Best 5.1 setup for 600 dollars" or 500 dollars and see what others who have tried to do the same with you have come up with. Not only will this inform you of whats out there, what's the best you can get for your money and how much you've GAINED in terms of quality from not buying the Logitechs that you'll be happier and it will also pass the time while others give their opinions on what you should do.

I would change the title of this thread to attract people that are interested in sharing and have the knowledge of what's best for your money. Something more appealing like "Best 5.1 speakers for 600" or "Best 2.1 speakers for 600."

Also, change the OP so others understand that you're open to REAL bookshelf speakers rather than logitech speakers.

Are you using them mainly for music? What type of music do you listen to? Does your motherboard have optical out?

I listen to pop, hip hop, reggae, techno among many other different genres. I'll be using it equally for music and gaming. Like I said in my modified OP, I have a HT Omega Striker SC but I'd consider returning it for a new one if it's not ideal for the setup I'm trying to build.
