Upgrade time!

Hello fellow OCNers!

I'm afraid my 780i board has been playing too many tricks on me, been at stock forever, tried everything in the book, contacted EVGA, they pretty much told me they'd RMA it, which I will, but it's been my third, unlucky 780i in a 3 years period, switch almost everything within the case during the 3 years and still had random issues at stock on fresh installs.

Anyways. So I'm currently eyeballing Sandy Bridge. I'd replace only my mobo, ram and CPU, since I'm pretty sure the rest of my system can hold it's ground for a bit. If I can sell the GTX 285's I might get a 580 or 590(might try a 6950 or 6970, too), but that's no priority for now.

Don't really have a budget.

For the moment I was thinking:

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...s&promoid=1097

with..

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=58100&...acture=G.Skill

Now I was going to pull the trigger, but then I started thinking, should I wait for Z68? I mean, I was reading about the new features, I care more or less, but it's planned to come out anytime in May, correct? If so, prices on P67's might drop and I might be able to snag one.

What I'm looking for is a good overclockable system. I'd be happy with a 4.5ghz OC, which should be plenty easy to do, right? Maybe not with HT on, I'd prefer to keep it however.

Anyway, I need input.

Thank you!

EDIT: Can't figure out for the life of me where to buy the 1155 clip for my Venomous X...

You could keep waiting forever for the latest hardware, there will always be new stuff to outdate your current setup. I wouldnt feel remorseful about buying a SB cpu as they are so new it's hardly worth waiting for the next generation.

The 2600k can hit an avg of 4.4ghz without any voltage boost. With a tiny bit of tweaking most of them can hit 4.7 easy, probably even with HT. I personally dont think Z68 will be that groundbreaking compared to whats already on the market anyhow.

That bundle is a good pick,

Mine easilly hits 4.8 with little tweaks, As op said if you hang around you will be hanging around forever to buy parts for your new rig. z68 will be no diffrent from p67 apart from more options to to utilize/overclock the onboard gpu, and more ssd options. If your using a seperate graphics card like 99.9% of us are then this will be of no use to you anyways. After z68 there will be a another new socket 3-6 months afterwards to take another 20-30% performance increase over the current sb cpu's it goes on and on.

I highly doubt there will be significant price reductions on p67 gear as 1366 motherboards and cpu's did not drop in price once 1155 were released.

I say get your nice new sandbridge parts they will blow you away in terms of speed and overclocking ability for years to come especially coming from a 775 setup like i did

If You're planning to upgrade only Your CPU, RAM and mobo then guess what? Sandy Bridge... o.O

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128480

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-070-_-Product

Of course You can get 2500K instead of 2600K

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231455 Sorry my mistake, didn't saw it's a 2x 4GB not 2x 2GB lol But G.SKILL will be a good choice.

This is I would recommend to You.
