Wii to pc monitor?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone knows a reliable and affordable way to hook up a Wii to my VE278Q?

I've read that I need a VGA box or something similar but online comments on this tend to be several years old.

Does anyone have any recommendations? My monitor has a free HDMI and VGA inputs, and I can either use my monitor speakers or I can output to my pc speakers.

All help appreciated smile.gif

so i am pretty sure a cable just doesn't work, you need something to convert the digital to analog video
have a look at this [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Composite-S-video-Converter-Adapter-Input/dp/B004FM3EF2"]Amazon.com: HDMI to Composite 3RCA / S-video Converter Adapter (Input: HDMI; Output: 3 RCA + S-video) with 3RCA Cable S-video Cable: Electronics[/ame]

i dont know this for sure you can try to buy this cable [ame="http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-RCA-VGA-Cable-1-8ft/dp/B002ZUI68G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1303963900&sr=1-1"]Amazon.com: HDMI to 3 RCA + VGA Cable M/M 1.8ft/6ft: Electronics[/ame] for cheaper and see if it actually works

I don't think the cable will work. I think you do need that big converter.

That second one won't work, it looks like it converts HDMI to VGA, but the Wii doesnt have an HDMI output. The first one looks like it'll work, but I'm wondering if [ame="http://www.amazon.com/High-Resolution-Component-Input-Xbox/dp/B001D7G6X4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top"]this[/ame] will work for a lower cost? I might have to get component cables for it but it'd still be cheaper.

What do you guys think?

well the hdmi cable goes into the screen, and the three rca goes into the wii, and yes that should work for cheaper

No, it won't. That cable will allow you to DOWNGRADE from HDMI to RCA. The Wii would need to have an HDMI plug which you then connect to the TV's analog ports. OP is trying to do the opposite. You can't just magically upgrade your signal from analog to digital without a converter.

Accessory ONLY.NOTE: Unidirectional HDMI in to VGA / 3 RCA out. This cable can not be used to connect the PC with TV.

Input must be HDMI. (Wii must have an HDMI port) Can not be used to connect a PC to a TV for the same reason, unless your video card has an HDMI port.

I laughed at the name of that store.

On topic:
If the issue here is analog-->digital conversion, why don't you do analog-->analog? Like RCA to VGA?
