Wii to pc monitor? - Page 2

I went and bought [ame="http://www.amazon.com/High-Resolution-Component-Input-Xbox/dp/B001D7G6X4/"]this[/ame] but when I change my monitor to the VGA input it says that it is out of range. I read somewhere that you have to set your Wii to 480p to get it to work, but I'll need to take it to a friend's house to do that. I'll let you all know if it works, if not I'll be looking for some other gizmo. Ideas?

I made a nice reply and i dont have time to redo. I looked into this 2 years ago with my Hanns-G and it had a built-in support via the VGA port which almost no monitors do unless they actually have the component inputs. VGA is RGB with horizontal/vertical sync so RGBHV. Component is only 3 signals YPbPr with sync on the Y (the luma).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video

Basically you HAVE to have a converter box and they are $45 to $80.
http://www.google.com/search?q=YPbPr+to+VGA&tbs=shop%3A1&aq=f&oq=&aq=f

The one you linked should work fine. PC monitors don't natively translate "i" (interlaced, ie 480i), so that's why it has to be 480p.

If the issue here is analog-->digital conversion, why don't you do analog-->analog? Like RCA to VGA?

RCA YPbPr does not translate directly into VGA, only RGBHV (5 BNC cables) translates directly. This is a common misconception about VGA.

YPbPr to VGA requires a converter box or built in conversion (like my Hanns-G 27in monitor had).

have a look at this Amazon.com: HDMI to Composite 3RCA / S-video Converter Adapter (Input: HDMI; Output: 3 RCA + S-video) with 3RCA Cable S-video Cable: Electronics

i dont know this for sure you can try to buy this cable Amazon.com: HDMI to 3 RCA + VGA Cable M/M 1.8ft/6ft: Electronics for cheaper and see if it actually works

Neither of those linked products will work. The cable is VGA and compoSITE (not compoNENT, which is YPbPr). I know you're thinking a component YPbPr in to VGA out cable, I have one but the monitor has to have an internal converter.

The converter box is also not component, but also it is HDMI input not output. IF it was component input to HDMI output, THAT would work (like this [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Component-video-YPbPr-HDMI-Converter/dp/B003U7LKUE"]Amazon.com: Component video (YPbPr) / VGA To HDMI Converter: Electronics[/ame] )

Just wanted to update, the box I purchased works perfectly now that I set my console to 480p. For some reason it defaults way off-center, but using the monitor menu I pushed the output all the way to one side and its fine now. Weird. Thanks for all the help!

Most monitors have an auto-sync or auto-adjust that will fix that without using the manual controls. Good to hear it worked out for you.

For a while I had an xbox 360 cord that converted the video to VGA, they probably make one for Wii
